Never to old to make your dream a reality

Live, Laugh and Love
I published my first book a few days ago at the amazing age of 65 (self-published), so I guess I can call myself an author. Writing a book has been a dream for many years, and now it has become a reality. I applaud those who have taken the leap of faith to make their dream a reality. I thought about giving up several times but am so glad I stayed the course. I am looking forward to the next chapter in my life whatever that looks like for me.:D

How long did take? :)

Congratulations, @Ladybj. Self-improvement books generally do pretty well.

I've written 3 novels over the past 10 years (lots of stops and restarts), never intending to publish them. I've only mentioned them to a few people....my kids, specifically...and only to say this is what I'm doing to keep busy, explore my creative side, and improve my grammar and spelling.

But I mentioned it to a friend of mine over lunch last month, and she asked if she could read one of them. I sent one to her a few days ago.

Thank you!!!
Have you changed your mind about having them published? If so, I would highly recommend not to go with a self-publishing company. I looked into several self-publishing companies, and let's just say I felt like they weren't telling me all I needed to know and be aware of. I'm glad I took the initiative and self-published myself. I had a great editor and book cover designer. It was a lot of work, but I learned a great deal.

I'll consider submitting it to a publisher if my friend tells me I should. I'll consider it.

The problem with getting an opinion from a friend (or relative) is that they're too kind. They won't be critics because they don't want to hurt your feelings.

My feelings don't get hurt (you can bruise my ego, but I know egos are products of our own delusions, so that passes pretty quickly), so, I hope she's critical. She's a very nice person, though. I don't know if she's got it in her to be critical.

I recently bought a novel about the Canadians fighting in Italy during WW2. The author has published a total of 5 books, all dealing with either WW1 or WW2 Canadian army units. I was surprised to see that all of his books were published by Amazon Canada. I contacted him ( he now lives in Holland ) and suggested that my Father might be a future character in a WW1 novel. I forwarded Dad's military records, and he is interested in weaving him into the next book in his WW1 series. I have a book in me, I just don't know what era to write about.

In no particular order, I have been a hard rock miner, an Ambulance Officer, a Private Investigator, a long distance courier, a repo man, an infantry soldier, oval track racer, an Auxiliary Police Constable, and a strip club bar bouncer. Not bad for a kid who left grade 9 at 17. JIMB.
