New and Lonely

Hi community
I was widowed just over 4 years ago and I'm profoundly lonely. I live fairly close to my daughter, but she's quite busy with her family and doesn't have much time to chat to me about things. Most conversations are about her 2 beautiful kids which I welcome. I love being their Gma. So I found this site hoping to feel connected to others.
Thx, Lael

Thx Muskrat
I've been perusing the site to get a feel and have made a few posts. Not used to looking at a computer screen for long periods lately. I used the computer when I was working, but I'm currently off work on stress leave. So my eyes are feeling tired, haha

Have you tried a pair of Blue Blocker Safety Glasses to rest your monitor tired eyes?
The Infield snap together and are very comfortable, adjustable bows.
Also set your monitor to High Contrast black screen and change print color. You
can have a dark screen, just choose a color of print you like not black or grey of course.
Just check your posts to see if they are easily readable.

hi Lael - I'm pretty close by - Australia but sister lives in vancouver - been over there once or twice - big place heh? yea nothing beats a real hug but we try hard on here and sometimes just sometimes it works wonders - it may happen soon? oh bye the bye - how to pronounce your name please?

Hey Llynn
I realize SF won't banish loneliness - nothing can replace real-time face-to-face conversations.
And a computer definitely is no compensation when all you need is a warm hug from someone with a heartbeat.
you'll be very surprised how much this forum helps with your loneliness... many of us ...probably more than half live alone and this forum and some of the people have become like an extended family to us...

What it isn't is a Dating site.... if people converse behind the scenes by Private converasation ( PM's) and make a union from there .. that's their business but the forum itself is not for finding a mate !

There are many ways to mitigate loneliness – join some interest groups perhaps – get involved in volunteering, but if none of these appeal to you, this really is a very nice place to voice your opinions on various topics and become absorbed in the sometimes serious, sometimes funny posts. I am happy to hear you do have family close by – it really is a blessing. Looking forward to seeing more of you. I am also Canadian (Albertan).
