Okay, I'm new here but not to life. Name is Al (rider1046) and I'm retired 5 days a week and work 2 days, unless I'm on vacation. Interests are mainly photography, writing, and travel. Have had motorcycles and/or horses most of my life but the horses are now gone and have two bikes parked in the garage, one still runs. I am a bit of a shootist, my wife, Mary Lee, and I have several handguns and rifles that we use for target shooting (informally) and I used to hunt with but seldom do anymore. I'm afraid I'll get something and have to haul the dang thing out of the woods and clean it! We have both passed our state's CCW class and shooting test but don't have permits yet. Been shooting since I was a member of a Navy sponsored rifle club at 11 years old and won a trip to the National Matches at Camp Perry, Ohio in 1957 by outshooting 79 of the other members. Got beat by the only girl in the club! Spent 1965-1973 as an enlisted member of the U. S. Marine Corps and traveling to various interesting locations where my services were desired and managed to survive it all.
Recently, after a 20 year hiatus, I returned to the gym working out with weights and walking on the treadmill four days a week. Trying to stay reasonably fit.
Looking for an online site where people share not only my age but also my interests. I'm online most weekdays unless I'm traveling and I seldom post that I will be traveling until I return. Security reasons.
So, Hello All!

Well I am just a tiny bit over ten years older than you but I guess we both qualify as Seniors. Welcome, I read your profile and I thank you for taking time to fill it out. This place will probably be a good fit for you...

Hi Al, welcome to the forum! We do some target practice when we're out camping sometimes, but aren't really involved otherwise with shooting, and would only hunt if we needed the food. Glad you're keeping fit, it's definitely a benefit to us as we age for sure.

Hi Al, welcome to the forum from London England. I looked at your profile and see you've lived in many places so you have quite a rounded view of your country which is always nice.

I too have a love of photography and upload many to this forum ( in the photography section) hopefully we'll get to see some of yours sometime .....also one of my hobbies when I get the chance is target shooting on the range as well, both my o/h and I have been licensed range shooters for many years ...:)

...I'm sure you'll enjoy it here..

Hi, Al! Welcome! Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors. Stephen King, well~~~ sometimes. I think "The Green Mile" is one of the best books I ever read. "The Shining" scared the **** out of me.

Have you read "The Guardians" by Koontz?

Hello Rider…Saw you're a shooter so you're welcome to use my political thread for target practice.
It's already been shot at a few times though

Also saw you used to drive trucks and like country music so I picked up this tune from one of our
threads here called "Favorite Road Songs". Type that into the search bar if you want to see more. Enjoy...

Hello Al, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome, Neighbor (well almost). We're in Central Missouri, a few miles north of the Lake of the Ozarks...back in the deep woods. I traded my motorcycle for a tractor when we moved here. I. too, have several firearms, and just do a little target shooting anymore...like you, I've pretty much quit hunting, unless I spot a disabled deer which is unlikely to make it through the Winter. Going to the gym to stay fit is a good idea....nothing like health problems to screw up a retirement. I've got my "gym" on our 40 acres....generally spend 4 or 5 hours a day outdoors doing chores. Lately, I've been cutting up several trees that got knocked down in a nasty wind storm about 3 weeks ago.

Greetings, Al! Yer over there near Park Hills, yes? Know where Bunker is? Spent 13 years near there, loading & shooting more ammunition than most. With 300 acres, nobody knew, or cared. Some of my best memories of firearms happened there. Was implored to teach Math 2002-'03 at Bunker High, did that, got a real "education" about today's young adults!

Welcome to "The Place"! imp

Welcome Rider, from the California mts. I'm glad you told us so much about yourself. My younger brother lives in Missouri, near the OK and AK corner. We have guns but since we moved to California several years ago my husband fishes instead of hunts. Did a lot of deer hunting in Oregon, I went a few times till a bear almost got my uncle. I think you'll enjoy this forum.

Thanks for all the welcomes. I won't make it on here every day, more like weekly, but am looking forward to getting to know all of you better.
@imp, I know where Bunker is. Used to drive for Gene Day who had a Livestock Feed store there back in the seventies.
@Don M. Know what you mean. We have 20 acres here I try to keep cleaned up.
@Lara, One of my favorite songs!
@Shirley, I've read everything Dean Koontz has published.
@hollydolly, When I get going, I may be tempted to share some of my photos.
Feels great to be here!
