New hobby: Scotch!

I still buy a bottle of Glenlivet or some other single malt, but Scoresby looks to be a permanent standby. But, I became curious from seeing the Irish whiskeys nearby on the liquor store shelf, so I grabbed a bottle of Tullamore Dew to try. I like it a lot! Smooth! (y)

...and so my fondness of Tullamore continues, and has me looking close at Irish whiskeys. I do like Bushmills very much, it would be hard to decide between Tullamore and Bushmills....but it occurs to me: I don't have to choose one over the other. ;)

Because my genealogy bug has arisen from dormancy- I once again am seeking to make the last documentation connection necessary for validating my Welsh ancestry. And, what better way to 'connect' with ancestors than through their drinking culture. Welsh whiskey is my current sampling quest, if Google info is correct, the local liquor store carries Welsh liquors. I'll be stopping by there soon.

I drank Johnnie Walker Black for many years and then a few years ago the fella at the liquor store talked me into trying a single malt sherry cask finished scotch......Dalmore 12 is all I drink now.

(y) The Dalmore is on my shopping list.

As I mentioned- am looking to sample Welsh whiskeys, I may have to find them online as sources here are scarce and widespread.

I was just asking Bing about where to buy single malt bourbon or whiskey. About to finish this Lismore. Single malt Scotch, but I expect it's only $25 because no aging is on the label.

I recently ordered & received a couple bottles of Penderyn Celt single malt Welsh whiskey. My neighbor joined me in sampling a wee dram:

The product description states:
"This is the Penderyn Celt, which enjoys a finishing period in peated casks, resulting in a subtle, elegant wisp of smoky peat coming through..."
Both my neighbor & I find the Penderyn Celt pleasant, smooth, not detecting any "peaty" flavor particularly though.

Bourbon man meself - never have liked scots whiskey - brandy ok and occasional rums and vodkas [not together] mature pallet?? - or maybe damaged??

El castor - May I remind you that sugar is also a poison! In fact, much of what we eat, and drink can kill you if over consumed and/or if consumed too quickly! It is all about moderation...! Not abstinence!

I remember my first encounter with Scotch, I was working as an industrial maintenance mechanic in a plastics extrusion plant. the production line was down for Christmas holidays. Around noon the maintenance foreman( a Scotsman) invited all the mechanics to his office to sample some holiday cheer Scotch. I tried the Johnny Walker Red, then sampled the Johnny Walker Black, I didn't like either one.
Since then, with a little help from my Scotch drinking neighbor I have acquired a taste for Scotch, including the Johnny Walker Red and black.
