New Kid on the Block with Big Shoes to Fill

We have a new addition to our small menagerie...I was gifted with another rooster yesterday. He is a miniature version of BuckBuckBuck. He still has some growing to do, but no doubt he will grow into a handsome fellow.

We are building out a pen at the end of the coop to make sure he doesn't meet the same fate as BBB.

I am looking forward to his morning wake up calls once he gets settled. His name is BuckaRoo.

Pics later.

Congrats on your new addition! I was thinking how much I wouldn't want one because of their early a.m. calls, but BuckaRoo is very lucky to have found a good home who appreciates that! :D

Okay Buckaroo update...He's been in the coop since he got here, and was not a happy clucker. The first morning when I went in there he attacked the door in desperation to get out. The first couple of days when I went in he would run around like his butt was on fire, trying to hide. I started catching him and putting him up on his perch and petting him until he calmed down. That took about two days, and now he's fine with me. This morning I went in to clean the coop a bit and he was eyeballing the door, so I stepped back and let him run out. Out he ran like there was a fox was on his tail feathers, screaming all the way in his best distressed chicken voice, for about 25 feet when he suddenly stopped and looked around as if to say, "Oh s***, Oh s***, I'm out, where am I?" He then pecked around a bit and worked his way up the driveway where there is a large tree. He hung around there while I went and got the camera...In the meantime when I got back two of the cats, Lovey and Gray had taken up observation. They seemed to know it wasn't BBB, but Lovey took up a guard post within a few feet of him. Gray satisfied her curiosity and moved on shortly. The Gangsta's were out doing their business when Buckaroo came flying out, and they barely paid attention to him. I guess they thought he was BBB, too.

Now he is roosting up in the tree, I guess he feels secure up there. I think the chances of me getting him back into the coop tonight are slim...doubt it's happening, and I am not climbing that damned tree.

I haven't heard his cock-a-doodle-dooing in the morning because he been in the coop. He still has his juvenile voice, like a pre-pubescent boy whose voice is changing, so his crowing comes out like a very bad opera singer. He'll get the hang soon, BBB was like that too at first.

Can anyone tell me how to downsize pictures, don't know why they show up so large?

He is one beautiful rooster, OG, and I love the kitty, too!!! Roosters are hilarious when they first try to crow; we had a dorking who never did crow right, but maybe that's the breed. He used to come up in the porch and crow, or try to. Plus, he crowed anytime he felt like it; throughout the day.

For pictures, I'm sure someone has a better way, but I just resize them in paint before saving them.

Well, just as I thought, he's up a tree tonight..and I mean waayyy up! I guess I will be treated to his pathetic crowing in the morning. I enjoy the sound of a rooster in the morning, but I sure hope his voice changes soon, it's quite comical.

I was going to have a pen made for him before I let him out, but the boss man (husband), the builder (brother) and I could not come to a meeting of the minds as to how it should be done... I let my ire be known and told them to forget it if it couldn't be done my way as I stomped off. There was no appeasing me after that, although they tried since I'm the cook, and the result was no pen for Buckaroo, which leaves him up a tree.

I could built that pen myself, buy chickens, wait for them to lay a dozen eggs and teach the cat to make an omelette in the time it takes two men to wimble, wimble, wimble.

TWH..I hope Buckaroo has the same luck as your friend's Roo because the chances of me catching him now are nil.

This entire thread, especially this post, is hilarious. But good luck on capturing the lil bugger!

He is beautiful!!! Wow, such lovely colors. What about trying to make a train of grain from the tree to the pen? Just thinking he might get hungry and follow the trail of the grain.

I hope he comes down safe and sound. Keep us posted!!

Oz i was just thinking that maybe Buckaroo is gay and that's why he is sitting up in the tree as he has no interest in the girls

How would one ever come to terms with their rooster being gay? Let's just not think about it!

I hoping Buck will come down when he's hungry.
