New life in the backyard!

R.I.P. With Us In Spirit Only
As many of you know, we feed birds. Any bird who shows up gets fed and we provide water in two places. We have Gambel Quail attending. Today a mamma Quail showed up with her two new chicks. The little guys are smaller than a chicken egg right now but mamma wanted to show them how to eat at her adopted home. Those chicks are cute as can be.

Oh Jim, how nice! We have some quail in our area, but I had to look up Gambiel Quail to see what they look like. They are beautiful birds, how exciting that she has her baby chicks with her right in your yard! Love watching wildlife, I was just out for a walk behind my house and saw a doe, and a baby snake coiled up, not sure what kind it was.

People are so different when it come to wildlife. My neighbor bitches that birds make too much noise. I told him to get mufflers for his tender ears. He got the message. Can you imagine, birds chirping as "noise"?

I can see him screaming out his window Shaddup!!! :playful: I love listening to the birds chirp. There's times in my backyard where there are some loud birds, usually those protecting their babies in the nests. The big Magpies and Black Crows usually dominate the yard, but we do get some nice Robins and smaller birds who manage to have their babies in peace. There's people who walk through the park and woods with headphones on, listening to whatever, not me, part of the pleasure of walking in nature is hearing the animals.

Love your story and pic, Jim. I used to feed birds until my inconsiderate neighbor's cats began hiding in the bushes and picking them off one by one. I had to shut down immediately.

I can't imagine being annoyed by the sound of birds. (Except ibis!)

We have feeders hanging from a tree and use bird peanuts. Mostly see blue tits and chaffinches using it and occasionally a woodpecker.

"He rocks in the treetop all day long, hopping and a-bobbing and a-singing his song..." Yes, the "rocking" robins are doing their mating thing just outside ny door!

Nice picture, Jim. I too love seeing the quails and their line of babies...following their mother through my yard. Always so afraid the feral cats will snatch one. I love animals but, have just too many feral cats that think my deck and porch are their home. Tore up my screen porch and wicker furniture.

Do you get hummingbirds?

You bet. I fill my hummingbird nectar feeder once a week. These are the Anna Hummingbirds, they do not migrate, they are here year round in spite of the summer heat.
