1283. Context of public display
Public displays set forth in R.S. 25:1282(B), (C), (D), and (E) shall be accompanied by a document entitled "Context for Acknowledging America's Religious History" which shall read as follows:
(1) Some documents stand out as pivotal in the religious history of America and Louisiana's legal system, among which are the Mayflower Compact, The Declaration of Independence as a legal foundation for the United States Constitution, the Ten Commandments as one of the foundations of our legal system, and the Northwest Ordinance, which was a primary document affirming faith and the first congressional act legally prohibiting slavery. It is hoped that their study and relation to each other and the history of our state and nation will foster an appreciation for the role that religion has played in the legal history of America and the state of Louisiana and prompt further public study.
(2) American law, constitutionalism, and political theory have deep roots in religion. American ideals about liberty, freedom, equality, legal responsibility and codes of law, to mention a few, have roots and underpinnings in religion and biblical literacy. The Ten Commandments, which are found in the Book of Exodus in the Old Testament of the Bible, was one of the earliest written expressions of law to be incorporated in American legal systems. The Ten Commandments, or the law of nature, also impacted the Declaration of Independence which refers to the "laws of nature and of Nature's God."
Acts 2006, No. 602, §1.

The text seems to infer the law is "secular" in nature, the same as "In God we trust" on currency. A historical perspective of the forming of jurisprudence through the ages, as noted above.

It also lists several USSC decisions in its favor, of course depending on how the law is written? Even in the chamber of the SC, one of the friezes is of the 10 commandments, outlining the history of laws.

The ACLU is already jumping on it.

Wonder if the Louisiana public schools will acknowledge the source, i.e., that these commandments were handed down from God to the Jews, AKA His chosen people, via Moses. Any bets about whether that little nugget will be specified or ignored?

Teachers could make this into a fun learning tool for the kids. Go thru a President-a-day, or maybe two Presidents a week, and determine which ones have broken these commandments, and how many were broken.

Bonus points to those show-off kids who want to actually find out, for example, how many "false witnesses" (lies) each President told while in office.

(I am being facetious and I think this law will be struck down by the Supreme Court.)
I was thinking something along the same line. I'll be all those pushing it have broke way more than your average citizen.

In any case, this is highly, highly inappropriate and wrong.

Never in a million years! That's where the dodge "New Covenant" comes in! :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Only when convenient. Old Testament laws are quoted whenever that suits someone's purposes to call behavior out as sinful, while others are dismissed as being released by the New Covenant when that works, too.

p.s. Wonder if they'll mention that these commandments are also part of the Koran...

I'm not a fan, but it's much better dealt with at the state level (where I believe it will be overturned or else amended to allow all religions to display something... what a mess!) than the federal level. At least this way you can move to avoid things being forced upon you.

Forced? Move to avoid being forced? What's next for some states, the gulags? Why would you tolerate people being forced?
