New phone

Needed a new phone. Put it off as long as possible, but finally got one.

First problem: various things say can't connect to this, can't connect to that, can't determine location for weather report, etc.

Second problem: nearly half the storage space and nearly half the memory are taken up by quantities of preinstalled apps that I have no use for- Facebook, etc. However, when attempting to remove anything, I get the message that removing could stop other apps/programs and even the phone from working.

Would anyone here have a solution to either/both of these issues?

You haven't even said what type phone it is.
Even so, best to contact customer service/support.

You can delete all those apps they won't cause any problems to your phone..
