New TV Ad From...Dr. Oz

Well, I saw an interesting new sales pitch yesterday - from a doctor who pitches whatever he's paid to pitch, like Green Coffee Extract to lose weight. Yeah...losing weight is so easy; just buy lots of Green Coffee Extract. No healthy eating, no exercise, just drink this magic formula, says the good Dr. On his show, he asks the audience: "How many people lost weight by drinking Green Coffee Extract? raise your hands." Most of the people in the audience raised their hands.
Gee, that wasn't......prearranged....was it? Why,,,,,,,,, that would be dishonest! You think it helped sales?

This pitch was not for a weight-loss scam. With more people becoming informed, sales of vaccines are down, so this time he suggested everyone get a pneumonia shot, a shingles shot and--of course--a flu shot. Considering what they must have paid Dr. Oz for those few seconds, they must have considered it a good investment.
And, don't forget that really important vaccine for your 10-year-old kids - that Gardasil vaccine, because we know how many 10 year olds are having sex these days.

Maybe the sales pitch for the shingles shot was intended to counteract those ads that say they are settling cases for people who got shingles after receiving the shingles vaccine?

Are you deliberately being dense? A child of around 12 is given that vaccine for protection down the road, the not far distant future.
Be careful. If you get into any criticism, in here, even when the same is mightily deserved, Big Brother will slap a temporary ban on your posting privileges. SF is a happy place, with happy people.

WIN, are you suggesting that vaccinations such as for polio, smallpox, tetanus, measles, diphtheria are of no value and should be avoided?

Dr. Oz is a celebrity doctor promoting supplements that got him hauled before congress because of numerous complaints. Everything he does is now surprisingly suspect. Even promoting vaccinations. Go figure.

Ah....yes....it's only a matter of time before we can expect an asinine exaggeration. Where did I suggest that ALL vaccinations are useless?

Here in the US you can get all the vaccinations at your pharmacy without a co pay I do not see why you feel Dr Oz is doing this for profit, or that it is a scam. Can you explain?
You really think he's not being paid for the ad?

Most insurance companies encourage people to get protected from shingles, pneumonia and the flu and are willing to pay the costs for the preventive care w/o any co-pay or deductible.

The only one I haven’t received is the latest shingles vaccination. I did get the first one, but the doctor who did my wellness visit told me that I needed to get it. I’m not convinced about getting a second shingles vaccination. Is there such a thing as too much protection?

I remember back in school getting 3 polio vaccinations by injections, plus a booster maybe 2 years later. Then, the Sabin Oral Vaccination came out and I got a few doses of that. Then, when I had my physical for the Marines, I was asked what vaccinations I had received. I forgot to check the polio box, so you guessed it, I got 2 more shots and then the nurse tells me that I only need 1 more polio shot. I said,”POLIO? Hell, I’ve already had about 6 or 7 different vaccinations for polio.” That ended that.

If he is getting paid to do this as a PSA, I do not see an issue. Who does it hurt?
Well, for one thing, some vaccines (like the shingles vaccine) have caused the diseases they're supposed to prevent.
And I just don't like scam artists selling things.

I do not want to argue the point, but I just looked and saw no documented evidence that the vaccines cause the disease. The vaccines have a weakened form of the disease in them to cause antibodies.
There are always rare instances of people having side effects to some vaccines, but I do not see any of that as a reason to NOT get it. My doctor just told me to go get the pneumonia vac, and the new shingles vac. I plan to get both. And While the Doctor OZ green tea thing was not effective, that does not mean everything he promotes is a scam. I get my advice from my OWN doctor, who knows me. Not from a doctor on TV.

That "doctor" is a hack. A couple years ago he had an over the counter product he claimed cured psoriasis. No such product ever existed and still not exist today. Tragic how some watch and believe him.

I used to watch his show...mainly with a grain of salt. I lost faith and respect after the Green Tea thing. Especially when my husband fell for it, and insisted, against my objections, to order some. ***sigh***
I do not trust most of the "paid spokesperson" things. Again, I go with the advice of my OWN doctor, not what I see or hear on TV or internet. Had a long chat with my doctor about the anti-vax thing. She is so not on board with it. She told me she, and any reputable doctor would not recommend anything to their patients that they felt would have such negative side effects. She said she has seen nothing to support any of the anti vax stuff.

Marie: I have seen a lot of reports about Prevnar-13, the pneumonia vaccine and all of them recommend those of us over 65 to get the vaccination. Pneumonia is the leading cause of death for people over the age of 65, which I was not aware of. I got mine at Walgreens, which I don't care for as a drug store, but someone in the business once told me that they buy so much stuff from suppliers that they always have the freshest available. Probably doesn't mean squat, but I fell for it.

Out of court settlements. It's not easy to find documented evidence on the web about the shingles situation, but there are TV ads that list the side effect of the vaccine - & one of them was contracting shingles.
And, I'm not "Anti Vax." I am anti scam, however. As I've said before, anyone who feels confident about any vaccine (or their doctor's advice) should get it, including the flu shot.

At one time I rather liked Dr. Oz. Now, not so much. Can't say I really trust him.

As far as vaccinations are concerned, I say follow the money trail. And it leads to big pharma. They have vaccinations and shots for everything under the sun now. Whatever they can push and have people buy into. Chicken pox, shingles, pneumonia, flu, etc. Sure, I think there are vaccinations children should have. But how many foreign substances can be injected into a young body before it goes toxic? I don't know, I'm not a doctor or a scientist so I can't say. But it makes me wonder.

I think we have gone beyond children's health into out and out greed. My father-in-law and his father were radiologists and pioneers in developing portable xray machines. They said the worst thing that ever happened to medicine was pharmaceutical companies and insurance.

Ironic. I think one of the worst things that ever happened to dentistry was the portable x-ray machine, allowing every dentist to zap mutagenic rays into patients without the need for a dedicated radiology room. The big increase in thyroid cancer has gone hand in hand with the scam of dentists pushing patients to get dental x-rays every six months to "monitor the condition of their teeth," when in reality, it simply is a way to add an additional $150 to their bills.
