New TV's in The House

How do you do?

We now have two new High-Definition Flat-Screen Television Receivers in our home.

For the Family Room, we bought a Samsung 65" set, and for the Den, we bought a Samsung 60" set.

I had initially wanted a 70" set for the Family Room, but that size is no longer available, having been supplanted by the 75" size, which I felt was a bit too

large for our viewing distance.

Samsung, made in South Korea, is now considered a highly-rated TV manufacturer, as Sony had been for previous years.

My wife will be using the 65" set for watching TV Broadcasts, and not pre-recorded Videos, while I'll be watching pre-recorded Videos from my

growing collection of over 400 titles, and not TV Broadcasts.

The High-Definition capabilities of these sets can only be enjoyed when Hi-Def is broadcast, or if the Videos are Hi-Def, such as Blue-Ray, but the colors are

fantastically brilliant!

People's ego is vastly superior to the actual eye's ability to see. Assuming you sit about 8-10 feet away from your TV, you believe everything is in beautiful color and crispy clear and sharp all over the screen. Actually there is a only 6 inch by six inch square in the middle of your vision that is "crispy clear", the rest is blurry as hell. You don't believe me? Look at the top of your screen and try to read the scroll at the bottom of the picture. Well, can you do it? What you believe is seamless clear vision is your active brain. Strangely, the best size screen for the real vision of the human eye, in a normal U.S. living room, is the old 32 inch TV screen. If you measure the height of the hero in the middle of the screen in a 32" TV, that same hero will be less than 1-2" bigger on a 70" TV. Unlike you, movie people understand the limits of the human eye.
 
Your rooms must be nice and big for such large TVs Hal, you should post some pictures of them. :)

Our viewing distance for the 65" set is 16 feet. For the 60", it's 12 feet.

I understand the limits of the human eye too...I'm an Amateur Astronomer.

My 16" reflector below has 3370 times the light-gathering power of the human eye, dark-adapted to its widest opening of 7mm.

My collection of videos contains the best productions from the last 85 years or more!

Films such as Gone with the Wind, The Grapes of Wrath, Dr. Zhivago, Lawrence of Arabia, Twelve o'Clock High, A Farewell to Arms, Mutiny on the Bounty, Titanic, Tora Tora Tora, Tobacco Road, and about 300 more, most of them true Classics in Black & White.

We have a 2 man tube type set in the Florida room, it is so named because it takes 2 strong young men to lift it. It came with the condo.

The set in the living room I can pick up with one arm.
 
Thanks Hal, they look nice, they don't look that big in the pictures. Our rooms are small, the biggest TV is in the living room at 37", 32" in the bedroom and a small one in the kitchen. Anything larger would make us cross-eyed. :magnify:
