New Veterinarian Visit Today. I Don't Know How to Feel.

I had to stop going to my established vet. I won't get into it but it had to do with one of the ferals I feed that I took in. Who BTW is still at the small colony and fine now. I tried one new vet, did not l like.

I took my calico to another new vet this AM. They were nice and all. She's had some increased throwing up and finally threw up a hair ball and was doing a bit better but still throwing up sometimes. I agreed to blood lab work and a stool sample analysis. They also wanted to try a pill for a few days and some canned food which is expensive. I did agree to those also

But when they brought my calico back out after getting the blood work they said they did a urinalysis, which was NEVER mentioned and I was not asked about. Not only was it 95 dollars additional but they did a bladder aspiration. I would not have agreed to that if asked. She is not having urine symptoms. I know people will say they would have said something but I'm not comfortable. Plus my poor cat was subjected to the procedure already. I've been gaslit too many times in my life. They could get nasty and say it was discussed. It was not.

Of coarse I ended up spending much more than I thought it would be. I'm just feeling overwhelmed with losing my established vet, my job, this apartment, not able to find a place to buy, the stress my stepfather causes me and a brother I can't even talk to. He puts me down and makes himself the hero.
 

Let me add that at 1100 pm I was woke by the neighbors downstairs. The male was yelling and throwing lots of f bombs while their stupid dog barked. I was woke up and started yelling "shut up shut up stop it" I don't know if they heard me but I couldn't stand it. I was woke up too many times by my mother's screaming as a kid. It's been a great 12 hours.

That would be understandably frustrating. I envy people who are comfortable with saying something without getting tense about it.
And I feel for your kitty, mine had his urine tested this past summer and they couldn't get any on the day of his appointment and I had to take him back another day and subject him to the torture a second time. I felt so sorry for him. But at least he had a good result from the test, so my kitty only needs to have miralax twice a day to keep his poop soft enough that he doesn't get constipated and throw up (I'm not sure if his throwing up was from the constipation itself or him straining when trying to poop).
 

Remy, it is understandable that you are upset. When it is a new vet I would think they would explain in detail to make you more comfortable.

I have never heard of this term bladder aspiration.....OMG it sounds painful for the cat. I am only familiar with the method where you make sure the litter box is empty and thoroughly cleaned and then you add these little balls to the box so the cat thinks it is litter and then you scoop it up with a syringe. That method is time consuming, the cat is used to litter and will only use the box as a last resort which in my case was being up till after 2 am.

I know. My tabby went through the urinalysis last year for good reason. She had blood in her urine. I heard her meowing in the back when she didn't meow with the blood draw so I know it was painful. Now Talia had it done when I don't feel necessary.

I'm glad you found something that works for your kitty. I had not heard of Miralax for cats. I know cats can get constipated. My calico seems to have a bit of an irritable bowel. Occasional loose stools.

Thank you Lee. I had not heard of this method of getting urine from a cat.

And I do believe they used a needle to aspirate from the bladder. :(

I'm beginning to think that good Vet service is going the way of good medical service for people.

We have an outstanding Vet school at Texas A & M University here, but for some reason, the Vet offices seem to have a shortage of techs lately.
Have no idea why I see a different vet every time I go in now.
They have my dog's records on file, but I feel like it's a new experience every time.
 
@Remy: Please talk to everybody you can find and see if they can recommend a good vet. Please don't take your cat back to that horrible vet!!!!
I've never heard of vets sneaking behind a person's back to do procedures without consent, but I'm not surprised- some vets want all kinds of expensive unnecessary procedures just to make money (and/or selling expensive products). Not only will some lie, they'll even falsify information in a pet's records.

Thank you. I know, it makes me very uncomfortable and I know for sure, for sure, for sure, that it was not mentioned as a need for my cat and I sure as heck didn't agree to it. One of the volunteers at our PAWS thrift made a recommendation when I asked. I called and they are short on vets and not taking new clients at this time, until they can find another vet for the practice.

I wonder if I should suck it up and call my old vet again.

If your old vet was someone that you trusted and cared about your pets, that might be a good idea if you can't find someone new.

Please consider reporting the bad vet to your state's veterinarian board.. although there's no guarantee false information isn't in the cat's records.

I had a similar experience with a carpenter doing much more than I hired him to do (and charging me for it).

I understand why you didn’t want to say anything after the fact. What would be the point? Yes, do ask around. And when you do find a vet, talk to the vet beforehand. Make it clear that if they're considering any extra procedures, they need your approval first. Good luck!
 
Vets, Dentists, Doctors, Contractors - they're only concern right now is money. And they're getting very creative (ridiculous).
A friend took her dog to the Vet when his eye was tearing. Her Vet found the problem & fixed it in 10 seconds - a foxtail that he removed. For $1,500.00.
And he wanted to keep the dog overnight for "observation," for another $900.00.
 
Just a thought Remy....when I moved I had to find a new vet. I went on the Next Door app online and got recommendations from those people who lived in my new area. When several gave the same name that is the one I chose.
