Just heard this on the news about wildfires in the Pacific Palisades area & Los Angeles. They said winds & dry condition are spreading the fire & about 30,000 people have been ordered to evacuate.

Not sure if any of our members are or will be affected by this or not.

Prayers for all of the people facing this latest fire.

I used AI to find out what is happening there. Look at this...it told us what is happening tomorrow!!!! Why? Too weird.

Pacific Palisades Fire Spreads

As of Wednesday, January 08, 2025, the Pacific Palisades fire in Los Angeles has grown significantly due to strong winds and dry conditions, with approximately 30,000 residents evacuated from the area. The fire, which started around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, has burned over 2,900 acres of land, threatening many homes and businesses in the region. The strong winds, reaching up to 40 mph, have fueled the fire’s rapid spread, making it challenging for firefighters to contain the blaze.
  • The fire has affected several areas, including the grounds of the Getty Villa and the campus of Palisades Charter High School, which have caught fire.
  • Over 10,000 households are threatened by the fire, and evacuation orders are in effect for the affected areas.
  • The Los Angeles Fire Department and other emergency services are working to contain the fire and ensure the safety of residents, with thousands of customers experiencing power outages due to the strong winds.
  • The cause of the fire is still unknown, but officials have warned that the dry conditions and strong winds in the region could fuel any spark into a fast-moving and erratic wildfire.
  • As the situation is currently developing, residents are advised to stay informed and follow evacuation orders to ensure their safety.

Just heard a very bad update & they are calling it worst case scenario. The main priority right now is to get the residents out of the way of the fire. Some people are still wanting to ride out the fire & said they will leave if they have to at the last minute.

Some of the residents had very little time to evacuate & ended up in traffic jams so they abandoned their cars in the road. Bulldozers had to come in to shove them out of the way for ER vehicles to get through.

Forecast is calling for hurricane force winds to come in from the desert.

My local CBS station has non-stop coverage. Latest reports say over 2000 acres burned, 13,000 structures in danger; 38,000 residents under evacuation order. Fire fighting planes are (or were) grounded due to high winds. Looters already a problem.

It does look like a mountain fire, the headline that got me was "fire in Los Angeles"
Most of Los Angeles isn't a city like NY. There's a lot of urban/wilderness interface.

Los Angeles is a huge city (469 square miles of land - so water areas excluded). Los Angeles County is 4058 square miles of land. There are at least 4 serious fires in Los Angeles right now. Our son & DIL are under evacuation warning from a different fire.
