Good one, Guy. Nothing like a small personal celebration.

We didn't grow up with the kind of massed fireworks that are common today.
We had our own cache of explosives which we lit off around a bonfire to celebrate the then non existent British Empire.
It all happened in our backyard, with half the street joining in.

The wild scene at The Point and along the beaches got so crazy over the years I quit walking down the street to watch. Then, the cops came . . .

Yes!!! That's how it's done folks!

Only need to watch the first 12 minutes of the video and don't get put off by the 'slow' bit, it gets better. ...'n better.

They really did us proud this year. Pity they didn't use more of the AccaDacca soundtrack but... can't have it all.

Aaahhh yes, lurve the smell o' cordite in the mornin'.

I was dead bunger sniffing addict as a child anyone else suffer from that?

I was wondering last night what Jack Lange would have thought of the use they were putting his beloved Harbour Bridge to these days.
Somehow I think he'd have enjoyed it.:)

Siiiigh. Damned Ay Rabs! People are saying Dubai's were better'n ours. Well it was all very pretty and technically artsy fartsy but I still think we beat them hands down for noisy, crass and showy.

They concentrated it all on one building but then whatever you do best I guess, and they have a bit of experience in lighting up towers.

(Sorry. Still too soon? )

Here's the vid of it anyway.

January 26 is the date Capt. Arthur Philip landed with the First Fleet, including three ships full of convicts from Britain, to found the colony of New South Wales. It is designated Australia Day (or if you are aboriginal, Invasion Day) and is another good excuse for picnics, BBQs, going to the beach and fireworks on the harbour.
