New Years Resolutions

When I first retired I used New Year’s Day to mark the beginning of weight loss periods. I would sign up for one of Kaiser’s healthy eating classes that met once a week for 10 weeks. (They have since gone down to six weeks.)

The information was only new the first time but I found the weekly weigh ins and group dynamic so helpful that I signed up twice mire. For me to lose I have to record everything I eat and it’s calories. Eventually the desire to stop doing the recording would make me very disciplined about what I eat and when.

I never made any resolutions before or after that. Mostly I don’t like preemptively making decisions for my future self. Now I just take charge of today and leave tomorrow to whoever I might be by then.

I don't want to let myself down this year. I want to help myself. I'll make a list, check it often. Need some serious changes in matters of health, physical & attitudinal. If it takes bitching & moaning on this forum to help accomplish this, then yes I will! Thanking you guys in advance for your sage advice.

I realize this past year was centered on illness & death...........of my cats! Buffy was so seriously ill last January I didn't notice that Max was hit by a fast growing cancer until it was too late, which of course was too late from its inception. So Max dies, Buffy mourns and is so lonely. There were wonderful events that occurred this year but this was the theme of 2022, my poor beloved cats.
Here's to your great new and improved year, @Pepper !

I never made an official New Years resolution. Although, I did quit drinking on January 3rd 26 years ago (will be 27 years in a week or so). That was just a plain old resolution and had nothing to do with New Years.
I had quit drinking in 2006 as a 'self-help' step to deal with high blood pressure. In 2019 I decided to allow myself a daily cocktail, for some brief relief from my joint pains. I again have quit drinking in order to shed a few pounds before my son's wedding. I will not return to daily drinking, but will allow an occasional cocktail on social occasions.
