New York City Subways Flooding

That can't be good. Just catching the internet headlines. I don't have a television.

NYC flooding

NYT- "Heavy rain pummeled New York City and its suburbs on Monday night, flooding parts of the subway system, inundating major roads and causing long flight delays.

The National Weather Service issued flash flood warnings for all five boroughs of New York, and the emergency management department told people who live in basement apartments or low-lying areas to be ready to move to higher ground.

There was flooding in multiple subway stations and service on the 1, 2 and 3 subway lines was suspended in Manhattan, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said just after 9 p.m. Images and video circulating online showed flooding inside the 1 train station at 28th Street and Seventh Avenue.

Gov. Philip D. Murphy of New Jersey declared a state of emergency after the heavy rainfall set off flooding in parts of the state. Videos on social media showed heavy flooding in New Providence, N.J., in Union County, about 25 miles west of New York City. Kelly Martins, a county spokeswoman, said that there was flooding across much of the county and that water rescue equipment had been deployed, though no fatalities had been reported."

Are there places for the homeless. Maybe it was just some movie I watched, but are some underground?

Also, the rats can't be happy with the flooding.

I would imagine that some homeless would have been trapped inside the tunnels depending on how quickly the flooding took place.

Yes most of the subways are underground some one as deep as ~300', corrected to 180' after some research under the surface. Train tunnels coming into Manhattan are about 1200' deep.

It'll be a rough commute tomorrow.

Can't read the article you linked because they block it with their registered users banner. I haven't seen tonight's news but did get a flash flood warning on the Accuweather app. I'll check my news apps to see what's going on and I'm sure when I stream World News Tonight (which should be available now..12:27 a.m.) they'll cover it. I remember at least once before the NYC subway got flooded. Water was rushing down the steps and inundated the platforms. There's an area in my city that gets flooded too but I don't think we got that much rain last night.

Oh my god, where can people go to get mugged now? ... :coffee: ...
But lots of Chicago lies 30 / 50 feet below the cement of the streets.

These are gift articles I post so it should get you past the paywall. I used all 10 up this month on the floods.

Our temps in Dallas have been below normal so far this summer due to the rain we've been experiencing. Nothing like the floods in other areas but June and July are usually dry months for us. One lesson I've learned over the past few weeks is that I will never live near a river.

I hope the folks in NY/NJ are all okay.
