Have a bunch of lake "toys" that dh keeps up with.

Hi KathyG, welcome!

I grew up at 6 mile and 5 Points. DH worked for Detroit Public Schools for 30 years. Nice to meet "locals" on the forums.

Former Detroiter here, too. We moved there so my late husband could work on his doctorate at Wayne State. He went up first to find an apartment....note to self: never let a man look for an apartment. "Oh, honey, I found this wonderful apartment not too far from Wayne State....you'll love it!" Suuuuure. It was in the Cass Corridor and if you know anything about Detroit, you'll know you definitely didn't want to live in the Cass Corridor in the early 70's. Our building was full of hookers and we lived next to #1 and #2 on the Detroit Police Blotter. We beat a hasty retreat to north of 8 Mile Road after a year and never looked back. A few years later, we beat a hasty retreat to Florida and definitely never looked back.

When I lived in Detroit - 1980's - I lived in the southwest off of W. Vernor. Same neighbourhood where my parents were born and grew up. Both my grandfathers worked at the Ford Rouge plant. One of them died there falling off a tower.

I went to Wayne State for a few semesters after going to Wayne Co. Community College, but didn't finish.

My brother lives in Ann Arbor. He and wife are profs at U of M. We visit every summer for a month and love walking into town to sit outside at the brewpubs. We visited Grand Rapids with my sister last summer. Nice town!

LOL! Yes, I know Cass Corridor! It's actually nice now as they are revitalizing the area, but in the 70's, no way!
