Just saw on the news.

Amazon fresh has a new concept for grocery shopping.called SmartShopping
that's a!ready is in California, Washington state

Where everything is computerized..no scanning items or standing in line.

Did/does anyone know of this...and have shopped this way.? Very Interesting!

Found this info in a Philly newspaper:
Kroger now has 20 branded smart carts built to know what customers place inside. The wireless buggies can tally up your total, make recommendations, and allow you to pay for groceries directly on the cart. The gadgets eliminate the need to stand in line around strangers or pass off items to a salesclerk.

For the past few years, connected shopping carts were billed as a way to cut down on labor costs, get customers to spend more, and shift patrons out of stores more swiftly. However, according to Caper, the pandemic has pushed more companies to check out the trend to reduce face-to-face interactions amid the ongoing pandemic.

i have not used them but Son in law has ..
Amazon has some small almost convenience store size where it charges your card on file when you walk out with your items.

After watching this i am not impressed..... i do not need to be on cameras and tracked every second of the day would think maintaining and dealing with upgrades is still expensive.

I went to a store ( chain went bankrupt ) where you pushed your cart through a thing that reminded me of airport security and it gave you a total after the cart was thru ..... my attempt it did not work well and had to have a employee back out items etc.

So how do the items get bagged? Do you bag as you go, or do you have to stop at some bagging area?
video has you bag as you go ...only thing this guy did not do is leave an item he was just looking at somewhere other then putting it back in its correct home.

I found out, by accident, that if you have the right app on your phone, you can go to other grocery stores and do the same thing.
It's not just Amazon Fresh, Walmart has the same thing available.

I was near a checkout last year at Walmart, and was approached by an employee that offered to check me out .... after scanning items on her phone, printing a receipt, she bagged my groceries and out the door I went.
I was surprised how easy it was!

yes and of course there's the scan as you shop method too, which 1/2 the population do here ...it saves a lot of time at the checkout because all the items are already scanned ... and you just insert your debit or credit card at the specific scan as you shop..checkout desk.. to pay the amount that;s totalled on the scanner gun...

I just don't keep up with what is happening at the stores anymore.
I've gotten lazy in my old age, and just get all my groceries delivered to my door these days .... lol

i like this idea better ..... scanning yourself as you go makes it easy to see if correct price rings up as well.

Sorry but I don't buy all of this. As technology takes over our lives, we are losing control over what we do. Since Canada and the US has lost our manufacturing to China, I suppose that technology will be our saviour? Someone has to pay for all this technology. Don't cry if the price of groceries goes up. As that old saying goes, "Be ware of false gods, bearing gifts" or something like that. I reserve judgement on all this wonderful new stuff! We have had a lot of "wonderful" stuff coming out of California. Remember, the open class room concept. Ask any teacher today what they think of the open classroom?
