That’s total insanity. So, if I understand how teams protect themselves is to purchase an insurance policy that if the player gets hurt or becomes I’ll, or some other reason cannot play, the underwriter is on the hook for the whatever is owed. If he beats his wife or loses his standing due to any misconduct, the contract probably contains language that he gets zip. (e.g. Aaron Hernandez)

As for payment, I have heard that a few teams will sometimes string out the payments for up to 40 years.
 

And since the average NFL game is a little over 3 hours that's about a million dollars an hour.

It's all eggs in one basket strategy. As noted this could backfire but enough guarantees are in these contracts he could have a career ending injury in game 1 and still walk away a millionaire.

Ha, ha,ha! A few months ago I wrote about some sports guy making $8 million dollars over a 5 year contract. Someone wrote that my information was wrong. That there is no way that someone could make $5 million/year. I hope this guy is still breathing and I hope he reads your information. It sure makes me think that sports is a pretty good racket. The mafia is gonna get jealousy when they find out.
 
The days of free games are probably numbered. Just like with MLB, NBA, and NHL, it won't belong before you have to subscribe to some premium channel to get the NFL games. It's all about the money.

51 Million a year contract????? That's disgusting, nobody is worth that much. I only hope he uses it wisely and helps those that matter.
 
Cristian Ronaldo will get €200 million PER SEASON as a Footballer, playing for Saudi Arabia.
They have been throwing around that kind of money for a while now.
He will make that every season till the year 2025.

Makes the NFL look like 'chump change'... ;)

Who says the mafia was cut out being most sports especially the NFL feed off legal and illegal gambling which fuels interest.

The minimum for a rookie in the NFL is $750,000 per season. That's not exactly peanuts, but it is just chump change compared to what some of these prima donnas get.

Denver Broncos players were complaining about what Russel Wilson was making and how he was treated like royalty. It has to hurt player morale when someone who isn't that good is getting paid so much more than you.

What's skewed is the fact that people will continue to support such an organization / game that pays out that much.

He only makes it because they'll pay it.
