When we switch the TV or radio these days, it's all doom and gloom, war and killing, so would all of you lovely people join me, and share your nice, happy stories? 😊

A lady a few doors down from me, a mere girl of 72, told me about an 11 year old boy who asked her if she wanted any jobs doing for a small fee.
"I'll paint that big wooden fence for you if you have the wood stain", he told her.
He also told her that he was saving up to buy a game for his computer and it would cost him about £50.
She told him that she would like the fence painted but being on a small pension, she couldn't afford £50.
"I've already got £40 saved and I just need £10", he replied.
She let him paint the fence and gave him his £10, but just before he left, she asked him to have a look in a big box in her garage.
The box had belonged to her grandson who had gone with his parents to live in Canada about a year ago.
"There are all sorts of games in there, I don't understand what they are, but if you can use them, you can have them", she told him.
The boy's eyes near fell out of his head and he grinned, "Can I really have all of them?"
"Yes you can, love, you've made a smashing job of my fence."

This young man is now quite popular around here, he's done some chores for me too and I've given him a toolbox full of tools. 😊

One thanksgiving, my husband and myself were driving home from dining at his cousin's house. They always served really good food; almost professionally prepared. We had the usual containers of leftovers with us, when we stopped for gas. A homeless guy came over and asked for money. We declined, saying that we didn't carry cash. So the man then asked if we had any food?

We were glad to divide everything we had with this man, and he thanked us over and over. It was a with a real feeling of thanksgiving that we resumed our trip home!

This is the sort of lovely story that happens every day but goes unreported.
Well done, CS, I enjoyed reading your story. 😊

I saw on Scripps News this morning the story of a couple in Queens, started Magnet Fishing during the pandemic shut down. They attach strong magnets to rope and go fishing in local rivers, pulling up all kinds of metal stuff. They find a lot of tools, and those can be cleaned up and sold on Craigslist and Ebay.

They found a safe with $100,000 cash in it. If it is cleared by the Treasury Department (have to check if it was stolen from a bank) then they get to keep it.

I think this is a good news story not just for the couple, but because other people will start imitating them and much JUNK will be pulled out of rivers and hopefully, properly disposed of. Of course, some fishers will just toss it back in, but we cannot account for all societal dumbness in story telling.

NYC couple says they reeled in $100,000 in cash stuffed inside safe while magnet fishing: "Finders keepers"

Nice one, VB, thank you. 😊

I listen to a local sports talk show most mornings (Arizona Sports 98.7) while drinking my coffee and each year that station and it's sister news station (KTAR News 92.3) have a weekly drive to raise money for The Phoenix Children's Hospital. That drive was last week and the stations raised $2,369,000 for the week. After I read that I was reminded that is not all bad and gloomy. The stations have been doing the weekly drive since 2009 and have raised a total of 26.3 million for the Children's Hospital.

Give-A-Thon raises record $2.36 million for Phoenix Children's
