No cable, no phone, no stupid calls

A couple of weeks ago, my wife and I decided to die-cable and de-phone. $204 a month was getting ridiculous. And when we called them and explained we were on a fixed income they could care less. So now in our second week of using our cells, and no unwanted calls, and streaming our programs with the Roku device, we are very satisfied with the programming. In fact, we can watch our favorite shows at anytime we want to. Oh, not to mention we are saving over a $130 a month.

Good for you!

I dropped the landline years ago and watch air tv with my rabbit ears, no regrets!

I need to do some studying about streaming television, I'm not sure if I'm smart enough or patient enough to figure it out!!!

We live in the rural country and have never had cable. We got rid of our landline phone about 10 years ago and never get calls we don’t want. LOVE IT.

Nothing to it Bea. I studied and read all kinds of reviews and still didn’t understand it. Sent for it anyway, nothing to it. Works like a charm. I have and indoor antenna for local channels too.
One thing I don't like about Roku is the locked episodes on the History Channel and HGTV. You need a provider like dish to open them!! We have looked at all the free ones and have to wait a couple of months for some more free ones!!

I understand that a subscription to HULU will unlock them but that is a monthly fee..With summer coming we will be outdoors most of the time so we will wait until fall.

We got lucky about a year ago, when our local rural electric co-op strung fiber optics throughout our region. We now have the best TV, phone, and Internet service we've ever had....unlimited world wide phone, 250+ TV channels, and 100 MB internet service for $125 a month....and it is all crystal clear. If we get any Spam phone calls, we can simply click on "9", and they are forever blocked. I can watch dozens of TV channels on my computer anytime I want...with few or no commercials....History. Discovery, A&E channels, etc. I keep a basic Tracfone for use when we are away from the house...$7 /month....no need for Aps, Social media, etc.

If your area ever contemplates fiber optic service, go for it...far superior to anything provided by cable or satellite

I tried "rabbit ears" when we first moved in, zero reception, too many buildings and big trees in the way.

The big bills from the cable company are still an irritant.

Aunt Bea, streaming is a piece of cake with a Roku. If you have trouble setting it up you can call the Roku folks and they'll talk you through it.

Ken....I get HGTV on my Roku. Discovery and History I watch on my iPad. Just down load their apps.

I haven't bothered with streaming because I can stream on my I Pad.

In Canada the CRTC instituted a basic package for $25.00 a month plus tax.

That's what I have now. I'm happy with it and they are always including promo channels free plus on demand recorded programs.

You can also rent movies, but I don't have the patience to watch a movie anymore.

It's all I need. I'm shocked at what some people pay for channels they never watch.

Ok, so did I so I signed in with my provider, WiFi, which is Spectrum. You must have a modem if you have WiFi so just enter your modem user name and password. I had to do this for all my add-ons. Works great. Need more help, let me know.

We cut the cable a couple years back. Now we have antennas on both TV's. We get local channels and many digital extras. Plus we have HULU, Amazon Prime movies and HBO to catch up and for entertainment. My husband does miss getting ESPN and the NFL channel, especially now with the NFL draft going on. But he has found outlets to catch up.
I have mentioned before we have a Smart TV, so we get out streaming channels. Plus DH has a small TV in his man cave that has the FireTV thing on it. So we are cool.
I still stubbornly hang onto the landline. It has caller ID so I know when not to answer. Plus we bot got new cell phones where we have apps to block unwanted calls.
