It's already been proven that governments and individuals cannot keep anything SECRET or PRIVATE.

Determined HACKERS can and do access ANYTHING and any attempts to secure data would only be temporary until HACKERS can once again figure out how to circumvent security.

Overall---I think it will result in a safer world and prevent major wars.

Talk about TRANSPARENCY!!

60 Minutes did a piece last night on how easy it is to hack Smartphones. It appears that cell phones are the most likely technical device to be hacked.

I saw that piece, and although I've been an avid computer hobbyist for quite some time, I was surprised & dismayed by what I heard. The bottom line is to stick to strict computer security practices in daily use, to minimize your exposure / risk.

Consumer Reports has some safe cell phone usage tips: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine/2013/06/keep-your-phone-safe/index.htm .

Here is a guide from the FCC, aimed at small businesses, but just as relevant for individuals: https://transition.fcc.gov/cyber/cyberplanner.pdf .

Saw that on 60 Minutes too. Not surprising. Like locking our doors and windows at night. We may feel A little more secure but if someone really wants to get in, they will.

Lon, it can work both ways. Safer may not be the end result.

Keeping a PC secured from Malware, etc., is an ongoing struggle. I doubt that very many cell phone users have the necessary apps on their Smartphones to prevent/limit Malware/Hacking. They just blindly go through their day with their phone serving as an additional "appendage", and it's only a question of time before they get hacked. I would think the dumbest thing a person could do via a cellphone would be to conduct any kind of financial transaction.

I work on the premise that anything not in the computer can't be hacked, it works.

I don't even have a dumb phone, just a landline.

I don't do anything on my phone except have brief conversations, such as "I can't find your office" or "I'm running late" or "Hello, AAA . . ." or most often, in Wal-Mart "hello sister -- are you done yet and where are you?" I don't even keep the internet access turned on.
