No More Square Freezer Waffles

I remember years ago, all freezer waffles were square/rectangular shape, except Eggos. Now even store brands are round. Round ones stick up and out of my toaster and don't get evenly toasted - the square ones fit better in the toaster. Why are they all round now?

Is this a geometry area measurement question? My brain hurts, don't wanna think about pi. I could maybe handle the calculation for the square shape. Someone else will have to do the circle and then the difference, but I will hazard a guess that the end result will be more profit for the waffle companies.

Eggos were considered the best, therefore other round ones must be superior too. Just guessing on that.

I think that honeynut’s opinion is the most logical - the profit.

I remember the old inexpensive square waffles that came in bricks wrapped in waxed paper. I think the local brand was River Valley and they used to be 3 or 4 packages for a dollar.

Just look at the additional profit when you cut the corners off to make round waffles...

Enjoy!

I guess they wanted the success of Eggos, so they copied. There are waffles that don't have to be frozen but they are smaller than regular size waffles and come in a package of 12 I think. I used to get them at Acme supermarket but haven't seen them in a couple of years. I use a NuWave oven so I don't have a toaster problem. You could try toasting them in a frying pan.

Why not buy a waffle maker of whatever configuration you prefer, make up a batch of them, separate them with waxed paper, and freeze them in ziplock bags? That's what I do. Way cheaper and I know exactly what's in them.
