No Senior Club for a while

I saw the person that used to be the director of our local senior club that used to meet on the last Friday of the month until COVID started. A few months ago she was making overtures about starting it up again, so I asked her about it. She said she's trying to find someone to take it over, but it wouldn't EVER be her again. She didn't elaborate and I didn't ask, but she looked haggard and has lost a lot of weight. :(

Sometimes being the leader, innovator or facilitator can be just a thankless job that sucks the energy out of a person.

I discovered the senior center in my area recently. I had thought of going there for a while now, but never had the time. This week, I went and registered. The center is five minutes away and looks like a college with a gazebo and nice landscaping around it. It is really something! I get to wear a badge that identifies me. There are several free activities that I am getting involved in. On Monday, I went to a square dance class, and enjoyed myself tremendously. Later, I attended a strength training class. The building has several rooms and several activities, so you have to schedule ahead. Today, I attended two water color classes (beginners and advanced). Everyone is so friendly and it's nice to be among kind people. I missed the guitar instruction class (found out they have extra guitars there) so plan to attend that class in the future since I love playing instruments.

For the rest of the week, I am thinking of going to a basic drawing class, and also play a chess/checker game. Weekly, they have a band playing music outside and ice cream social. There is also a yoga class, and they have an exercise room where you can sign up and use. As I get to know this place better, I think I might volunteer at some point because I have so much I can offer. But right now, I am enjoying myself tremendously. I wish I had gone to this sooner!

Your senior center sounds like it has nice grounds. We don't have a separate SC here, the group met in a rented room at the Civic Center.
Pretty much the same here; we don't even really have a senior center with recreational stuff, just a Area Agency on Aging that's mainly to help seniors with problems, like rides to doctors' appointments, caregiver help, etc. I don't know why, maybe because this is a university town with mainly no other industry?

There is a progressive kind of church here in town that used to have some fun/interesting stuff offered but most of that went away with Covid and hasn't come back and I doubt it will now. Too bad; right after the Covid lockdown hit, I found out about a get-together group they used to have for senior women that sounded really good and they said to contact them about when it would start up again but when I finally got a hold of somebody, she said that she doubted it would ever start back up because, as she put it, "Let me see; how shall I put this? Two of the women in the group came into conflict with each other and it disbanded even before Covid hit, so I doubt it'll ever come back." That does happen with groups unfortunately.
