Frances McDormand and Chloe Zhao celebrate winning best picture for Nomadland, at the Academy Awards in Los Angeles. Zhao made history by also becoming the first woman of colour - and only the second woman at all - to win the best director award.

Watched Nomadland last night, what a great actress.

I'll watch it when I can. I also just ordered the book today.

I follow one nomadic channel on YouTube and sporadically look at some others. I couldn't do it. But it's fascinating. Some people seem to have done this by choice, other's out of necessity but many it seems have made connections and friends.

Interesting movie, but the bathroom arrangements were not ideal, you had to get rid of your own waste.

We became 'grey nomads' in 2009 and took 12 months to tour right around Australia. We had our own shower, toilet and washing machine plus air conditioning in the van which made life fairly comfortable. Just like the movie, met some great people and had some good times. Met a couple who had sold their home to become permanent nomads but while their van was depreciating in value, their home (that was sold) was increasing in value. I felt bad for them, they were both around 60 years old and were heading into old age without any anchor (home) in case things got rough.

If you look at the pic above, actress Frances McDormand went to a lot of trouble, knowing she was nominated for an oscar (not), no hairdresser and no make-up, I love this woman.

We own a very small travel trailer (17' Casita). The inside is only about 14 feet long since the 17' includes the tongue. It does have a kitchen and bathroom and can sleep 2. I have met quite a few people with these trailers who go "full -time" by choice. It is air conditioned and has a furnace and is actually comfortable. Once you get a routine, it isn't that bad. I am not sure I would want to go completely full-time though.
