Not just carjacking(s) anymore...be careful what you wear...

Way back in the 70s, I used to live in NYC. On the way to work in the morning, there might be a disabled car on the side of the highway. On the way, home, all that was left was the frame of the car. The engine, seats, dash -everything but the frame, which wouldn't fit into the trunk was gone. There was this bad accident. A car full of people had crashed, the dead were falling out the driver's door, and people were stealing the mag wheels. So, I don't think theft and robbery was newly invented.
that happens in places in the UK like Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham...

And the carousel goes round and round......
lesson learned by most people who avoid labels and designer crap for this reason..... IF someone knows that coat etc is X amount and they have a way to turn into cash they will take it.

so many say we cannot lock every one up etc..... but they reality is they should go after the ways they are being sold... ebay/ facebook/ all sorts of sites ..... it is clear if they sell "slightly used $1000 coat for 600" cause they just need cash now ...uh stolen

In the US many buy $1000 + phones on payment plan that last sometimes 2-3 years to pay off with a payment on your bill.....

IS anyone impressed with what phone you have ?
some expensive item and some criminal assumes you have more ........but they did not take into consideration some are just that shallow to want one expensive item thinking those around them think they are wealthy. These folks paint a target on themselves.

It had continued to surprise me - after years working in IT including extensive work with ISP's - that sites are still immune from prosecutions. Ebay is a hot bed of fakes, and stolen items. Yet they're not responsible for what gets posted. Same with the likes of Facebook. Sure, once in a million years, something will happen against them, but it's a real drop in the ocean. In reality, they're immune for what they enable, since the deal is between two people, not with Ebay themselves (so it goes). At what point is the person providing the shop window accountable? Apparently, virtually never.

I'd say, for some people, it matters a lot. My phone today is a horrible, cheap thing. It's slow, the battery doesn't hold a charge very well, and the screen is too small. But it does what I need it to. If I were working back in London, I'd have to buy a modern phone. I wouldn't bring out my current one while sitting in a meeting. :D

yes they are which is why they are so valuable to a thief, because they will have people lined up to buy....

I have an Iphone because it works well on all levels as a camera, a mini computer, a Sat Nav.. as well as a phone.. My husband bought me my first Iphone at around ÂŁ900... but once that contract was finished, I had no need to buy another at that price.. I just change over at the end of my contract to the next version up..

What I never do is talk and walk... nor do I sit my phone out on a table in a coffee bar or pub... ..

Are phones $1,000+?
And,how would robber know everyone has one..worth?🙄
I agree. How would a robber know your expensive coat isn't a knockoff? And I'm sure the second your $1000+ coat got "stolen", you put in a claim to your insurance company.
Don't trust nobody. :(

That happened on Queens Blvd, NYC right across from the old A&S store in 1972.

Well, that news is not something I'll ever have to worry about! I might find it hard to buy a $1,000 coat even if I was rich, I don't wear watches and I doubt they want my old Sketchers.

I sent them back to their maker with my legally carried handgun, dad was blind from it and lost an eye they missed mine about an inch. The driver of their vehicle got 40 years in prison for involvement, (max) all of them had lengthy records. They all fit the visual thug image to a T.
