Not Quite Bad Enough To Throw Away

In some drawers I have sox I bought that were sold as fits 9 to 12 size but feel too tight to be comfortable so they don’t get worn but are still nearly new. I have towels that are well worn but still usable even if they might look shabby. I’m in a quandary. Anyone else like this?

Put the socks on your hands like gloves and use them as dust rags. What's the point of having sox you don't wear?
i do this too ... have held on to items past the time i should .....
Last fall i cut up those towels and some other items have a big Rag bag to wash car or any cleaning job..... then i can discard the piece ..... i still am not using them as fast as i expected but have shared my bounty of cleaning rags to others too....

I never let things like towels or socks get raggy.. never.. the tiniest sign of them wearing .. and they're sent to the charity shop where they can sell them for Rags .. or in fact sell them in store.

I am guilty of keeping clothes which are too small for me, particularly if they were new when I got too fat for them, instead of selling them I keep them knowing that the second I get rid of them I'll lose the weight..

If I don’t like something, it’s gone now. I don’t have enough years left to be uncomfortable.

Socks are especially coveted by the charities that support street people. They don’t have to be attractive socks, just clean.

Towels go into my rag bin until it’s full or off to charities. They welcome them.

Some of my favorite things are old ... worn ... and invariably no longer manufactured. My old (early 50s), worn out 1/2-inch socket drive handle was on its last legs for years. Last year it finally quit. I returned it to Snap-On and they replaced it with a nice, shiny new one but I still miss my old friend. 🥲

If the socks are clean and in good shape, donate them. Salvation Army provides free clothes vouchers to low income and homeless people. At least they used to. Small local thrift stores will also sell socks in good shape.

People are out there looking for bargains and socks can be expensive.

recently a friend went to shelter to donate new socks and lady said they suggested gently used pairs since many of the homeless clients just discarded them as soon as wet or dirty

I had these rough wash clothes I got at Target over 20 years ago. They are now so thin they are unusable. I liked to scrub my arms after work with them in the shower. Can't find any nice rough ones like that anymore.

Wash clothes, old underwear, socks, t shirts that are in too bad shape to even wear inside around the house are used for or cut into rags.

That's such a waste. And I know it happens. I've mentioned the encampment behind my work place before and there are more people to the side of the building. That lot is owned by the city and the building I work at used to be able to call the city police to remove the people. But guess what? They can't anymore. And the amount of trash they leave when they move on is sickening.

I have a system. When new gets to bad for Sunday go to meet'n, it becomes work clothes, and when they get to bad for that, which has to be pretty bad, as Tommy said that's when they get really become comfy. At that time they get cut up into rags, and I go through a lot of them. So not an issue for me. My wife gives things to Lift Up, the local charity outlet.

I know! I like rough terry-cloth washcloths for myself first, and to use later as cleaning rags, but they're all going to "microfiber" now which looks pretty and is very soft, but lacks that rough traction I like. How else are we going to slough off dead skin cells and retain our youthful glow? ;)

I've had to give several brand new packs of socks to the homeless shelter because of the, "Now with lycra for a better fit!" They're so tight in the ankle they cut off circulation and I have unusually small ankles! No wonder the homeless are throwing them out as soon as they get dirty.

Spouse: Old, slow, not as attractive as she was forty years ago, not able to cook and clean like she used to, But I'm Used to Her...
I'll keep her, she is still to good to throw away.

(the ladies should kill me for this post, oh well...) 😖 😖 😖 😖 😖 😖 😖 😖
Spouse: old, set in his way, can’t see like he use to, can’t hear like he use to, won’t admit to either. thinks He’s still an excellent driver. Snores and makes other suspicious body noises.
Think i will keep him.
Can’t deal with hassle of replacing him for a newer model.

😄😄

Please call nearby animal shelters about the towels! Our local shelters are always looking for these donations! Donate socks to a homeless shelter if possible.
