[FONT="][FONT="]An alternative medicine practice in which a [/FONT][FONT="]cone[/FONT][FONT="] of waxed paper is placed in the patient's external auditory canal and then set on fire. It is promoted as a treatment for cerumen impaction and for removal of unspecified toxins from the body. The practice is dangerous; it occasionally results in burns or perforation of the eardrum. In Canada and the U.S., it is considered an unregulated medical practice—unproven, untested, and illegal to use.
