Not your usual pet

Up until last year(he has now been removed) this guy lived in our canal out in back of our homes. He was there for two years and was quite small at first, but I guess he was well fed. This is in my back yard, note fence, and he was quite the attraction. I had so many people checking him out I thought about charging admission.

Heh, "that smile" ...

I'm sorry, but I just cannot see naming something like that a "pet". The "old" creatures - gators, crocs, turtles and such - are just a little too primitive, too unpredictable, for me to ever want to snuggle with them or play a spirited game of Fetch. Too many people losing limbs to them.

I equate it with the folks who keep baby tigers and apes - unless you're a qualified zoologist you shouldn't mess with those kinds of wild creatures. I was just watching a YouTube video today about a guy who had a pet fox (he named it "Sly", of course!) and was playing Fetch with it. It was bouncing all around, barking and standing on his hind legs, even sat on command - it was cute as all get-out, sure, but there's always that primitive level just under the surface, and you'll never know just what will trigger it.

If you're willing to take that kind of risk then fine - enjoy your critters. Just know what those risks ARE before you bring home Mr. Croc O'Dile. ;)
