Notes from my patio

Broken clouds and cool this morning. We got a few sprinkles last night. Storms often peter out before they get to us. And, it gets even drier as you go south. San Diego doesn’t get much rain. The fiberglass cover for the patio has a couple leaks. I put it up there 36 years ago, so it’s due for replacement.

My Navy home port was Ballast Point San Diego. We moved to a duplex in Pacific Beach, a suburb, for the two years I was in. Actually it was two duplexes facing each other with a closed in yard between, a really nice place. It was $95 a month unfurnished and walking distance to the beach and shopping.

I liked San Diego. You get some fog near the Ocean, but the weather is really nice. If you go inland though it heats up pretty quickly.

I was gone a lot, 4 months overhaul in San Francisco and 7 month Westpac cruise to the far east plus local ops. So, my wife and son were alone most of the time. Money was tight and I know it was tough for her, but she did good.

Here’s my tomato patch this morning. The portable fence is going to be covered with bird netting when the tomatoes begin to ripen. I did get some bird damage last year. We had that fencing to keep the dogs out of places we didn’t want them to go, and to pen them in the house when they were puppies or ill. These bush type tomatoes don't get very tall, so it's easier to cover them. Notice my wild tomato is doing pretty good back in the corner.

Here’s my new seedling under a grow lamp. Hopefully I’ll get some late tomatoes from it.
