Notre Dame on Fire!!!

I just finished reading about it! I was there in 1969. That was the year I graduated high school and my mom and dad and 3 siblings and I took a trip to Europe that summer. I still have a small medallion from there that I bought as a souvenir.

My baby sister was only 3 at the time and got lost in there ...it was a scary few minutes until she was found. I remember it as being pretty dark inside.

Hope they put it out quickly and not too much damage is done...think they were doing renovations on it and that could have possibly been a cause..but I’m sure it’s too early to tell.

What a Shame! I usually stayed at a small hotel, just across the river from Notre Dame, during my weekend trips to Paris in the 1960's, and visited that monumental cathedral several times. The European TV channel, DW, is comparing this to our WTC loss on 9/11...and their interviews with several Parisians indicate that many of the French are thinking this may be a terrorist action.

A terrible loss! Construction of Notre Dame began in 1163. How many generations of the faithful have prayed there? A huge tragedy!

This is a great loss for Christians all over the world.

Aghast at this news. Any historical icons like this no matter the politics or religion should be preserved for as long as possible. This is history one can touch.

That being said there is stink on this poop. Just by coincidence on Friday France sentenced a women who was part of a plot to blow up a car near Norte Dame in 2016.

Also keep in mind there have been numerous attacks on Catholic churches this year.

Throw in all the yellow vest protest activity anything is possible beyond a construction mishap.

And it was at the end of day so if it started at the end of the work day with construction activity winding down how does a fire get that big that fast. It's almost like a gas cylinder or two was left in the on position feeding the fire.

Oeer you are naughty but I do like you!!!

Uncultured boor that I am, when I saw the title of this thread I thought it was something about sports. "The Notre Dame Lacrosse team is really on fire! They have now extended their winning streak to 11 straight."

That being said, I hope they do restore it.

I'm meeting up with some catholic friends for coffee today OMG all we'll talk about is the cathedral!! and I was hoping for some intelligent conversation!!

They'll investigate. Blame will be determined. We'll see how much priceless art work is forever lost. The engineers will take a year to determine what needs to be done and how it can be accomplished. It will take years to rebuild.

But it will be rebuilt!

Such a shame and a great loss, I imagine it had something to do with the construction that was going on, we'll know when they can investigate what started it. Thankfully no lives were lost, at least the last I heard.

I wish the conspiracy theorists would give it a rest until the fire is out and the actual cause is determined.

Indeed.....And would they please [as i heard on one news broadcast] not compare it to our '911' when approx 3000 American lives were lost.

Buildings can be repaired / rebuilt, even 800 yr old ones.

If you are dreading the conversation, don't go.

they are such good friends and I don't seem them much - we are thousands of kms away from each other - ND got mentioned once and that was it - we than just kept up raucous conversation and story telling and joke which was good for me soul - they picked me up - paid for my coffee and dropped me back home - dear lovely people -!!
