Now that NYS has legalized marijuana

When I first tried marijuana in late teens I was never certain if I was high. Overtime and being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, smoking marijuana had an adverse effect on mind and body as a catatonic zombie, so I stopped.

I've always wondered why marijuana had such a negative impact on me and if marijuana would effect the same way today?

At some point I will find out.

The only thing marijuana did for me was give me an over whelming sense of peace and that all was ok with the world. I simply relaxed and was no longer stressed out. Not high at all, but I understand it depends on the level of the THC in the product. I only smoke it twice in my life, and just did so for the experience. I was lucky to get a good product.

I'm having aches and pains in my legs from sitting too much, driving etc. I thought I would ask around for the best solution. Plus I want to see the negative symptoms of marijuana repeats itself.

It made me laugh nonstop.........and be very hungry. I have been around it a lot but have not actually smoked it myself in many years due to smoke of any kind affecting my breathing. I know for a fact if someone is suffering from depression it does help. My husband was never in a good mood unless he was smoking it. My friend would give me some buds to hold on to till I couldn't stand his moods and I'd give him one. Instant good mood! It does affect people differently though. Just like anything else.

Any mental disorder that has elements of paranoid delusions can be adversely affected by marijuana. Having said that there are different strains and THC strengths that can help with that part. I definitely use cannabis for pain. Also, there are many different ways of using it besides smoking. There are capsules, oils, edibles etc., however these can make you really high so you need to use with extreme caution while finding your tolerance level.

Marijuana comes in tasty gummy candy. Not expensive. I eat 1 half. And I am very high. Orange berry flavors. I also smoke. A few puffs will make you high and there are no bad effects. I caution you not to drive or cross a street. Best to relax and stay near home. Perhaps in bed
The candy is deceptively strong

I did a bit of it back in the ancient past, but never liked it as well as alcohol. Last year I was in Oregon and decided to try some legal pot, if nothing else as a replacement for the calories in whisky, my drug of choice. Still doesn't do a lot for me. I rarely drink any alcohol, kind of miss it, but am trying to control my weight.

Maybe when Utah legalizes it I will try again. Course that ain't likely to happen in my lifetime, LOL!

I'm a former cigarette smoker. Been over 27 years so I'm not keen on the idea of inhaling any smoke product. I do think I would benefit from some of the effects of THC. Perhaps edibles would be an option. We are visiting our son in a marijuana friendly state so perhaps I will try an edible under the supervision of theotherhalf. LOL

When I was in high school, I was SOOOO glad that Hostess made cup cakes, Ding Dongs, and the like, not to mention another GREAT product for those imbibing...Screaming Yellow Zonkers!

I don't/can't smoke any more. I take gel caps. Unlike edibles, I've never heard of calorie considerations so for me that is a better option than edibles.

(Too much) eating brings your head (high) down and is fattening. Yes, it makes gorging fun but I don't recommend it. Look at the dealers. Most of mine were very thin. Try not to associate pot with snacks or you'll have a big fat pot belly.

In the seventies I worked at High Times Magazine for a month, in the accounting department. Made me want a career in this, especially in the tasting department for grading as I am quite good at that. Now, there are careers in pot. I missed out. However of course I'm glad legalization is coming in most places.

I guess when young I should have stayed in Amsterdam!

Mix pot with COVID lockdown and people won't be able to get through their front doors when we can go out again.

Lucky for me, I grew out of the pot age long ago. We can stone when younger, but eventually we grow up and have responsibilities. My wife has a lot of health issues that make it difficult for her getting around, so I am pretty much a caretaker much of the time. I am responsible for making sure our savings and investments are properly managed, getting her to doctor appointments, etc. I can't step into my responsibilities while being stoned. I would hope most of us have grown out of doing dope and matured into responsible adults.

Among the many "cute" often repeated sayings of the 60s was "reality is for those who can't handle drugs". Those were fun back then, but I was a teenager. Now, if my wife suddenly needs to be rushed to emergency, it would not be "cool" to be stoned and giggling instead of handling the situation with the gravity and focus it deserves.

Not only don't I assume people can't be responsible smoking pot, I know too many souls who have proven that wrong for over 50 years. Some folks can hack it, some can't I guess.

Ps. Google Seth Rogan for a working man who smokes and succeeds all at the same time.

That was a great magazine!

I do remember fondly my "stoner" days and will continue to joke about that time of my life, but I did have to grow up and move on as responsibilities crowded such living out of my life. That whole culture was a lot of fun, I have to admit. :)

Louis Armstrong said he smoked pot every day. He certainly made great music and a lot of people happy.

There probably are people who use pot "recreationally". I just remember having to make a conscious decision to grow up, and a part of that was leaving mind altering pastimes behind.

Did you ever read James Michener's "The Drifters"? If not, I highly recommend it. Based on your posts, it will probably be a trip down memory lane for you.

I guess I am never going to grow up as I smoke pot almost every day. I only need one puff and I am feeling fine. If I did need to go out (in an emergency) I just have something to eat and it brings me down. As for edibles, they are all not the same. Usually need 2 or more gummys before I feel anything and it is usually just a pleasant relaxing state and not really high.

As far as I am concerned, I have to admit to being baffled as to why legalize alcohol but not marijuana. When I was growing up, I grew some dope in our back yard. My dad used to brag about how his dad "brewed the best hooch" in his bathtub during Prohibition, yet when he saw my plant, he got really, really upset. To this day, it makes no sense to me.

There is a guy in our building who has the kind of medical issues that can be alleviated/addressed by marijuana. I have argued on his behalf as a member of the board and when medical use was legalized, prevailed on him to get a doctor's note just to stop any harassment from the board.

So, I have opinions about its use in my own life (and readily admit to its use in my own life when I was much younger), but I believe we each have to make our own choices. For me, a part of growing up was moving on from the use of mind altering drugs, though better living through chemicals has become a normal part of our lives. For others, I am sure their views are quite different. I should have worded my earlier post to reflect that.

Unlike Bill Clinton, I DID inhale, DID have sex with "that woman" and moved on with my life. :ROFLMAO:

Edit: Lately, the pot I have smelled around my area stinks like skunk. I have been informed that it is called "skunk weed" and is apparently far, far more powerful than the sweet smelling stuff we used to get from South American and Mexico when I was growing up.
