NS, BNSF, CSX, UP, FEC and other freight carrier incidents

I remember when the Pennsylvania Railroad went bankrupt. What was left of the company was taken over by Conrail, another company that struggled to keep going that they had to take money from the Federal government to stay afloat. Later, Conrail divided its assets up between Norfolk Southern and CSX.

My brother-in-law worked for the PA RR before it went bankrupt. Later, he joined on with Conrail and Amtrak. He was a heavy diesel/electric mechanic. I think he was making close to $40 or $50 an hour when he retired as a supervisor in the diesel mechanics dept.
