Nuclear Bomb Questions

I was delivering a crawler up near Humptulips
Heard her blow
Thought someone was blasting stumps on the next mountain
Lived in Aberdeen at the time
Lotsa ash
Sounds like you and I were hanging around in the same area at that time. Were you driving a lowboy?

I wish
A poor version of a lowboy
At least it was a dual axle
It would max out with a JD 450
Not recommended to be in a hurry to offload
Loading was a neat trick...I could balance it on the backend (a crude wheelie) when it hit fulcrum (approx halfway past the ramp) then lay it down on the bed like putting a sleeping baby in a crib

Where were you when Helen blew?
I remember it well, I was in Wyoming flying to Louisiana the next morning. By morning the dust was in the air, I had to brush it from the windshield before going to the airport. After we took off the pilot said the airport was being closed because of the dust. Changed planes in Denver and the same thing happened, not long after we took off the airport closed. I was really lucky to get out.

Of course, it matters if it is only one bomb, or total war. While the devastation will be localized around the target area, I think the real destruction will be the collapse of civilization. We live in an extremely integrated society. Multiple layers of production, distribution, etc. provide for billions of people. Nuclear bombs will destroy that ability to feed vast numbers of people. Civilization, food production and the transportation system will collapse. What's left may not be able to pick up the pieces for centuries.

Good point, fuz

If I remember correctly, we dropped The Bomb due to their ability to manufacture and/or provide a lot of things and services locally, or regional

Now, everything comes from all over the world, and even utility sources are more widespread

Lately, there has been some speculation/fear that Putin will use tactical nukes on the Ukraine. I find that very doubtful. If Putin was deadly serious, he has the entire Russian military , thousands upon thousands of tanks at his disposal. If Putin were to use his vast military strength, the Ukraine would be over run in a few days .

The right size nuclear bomb, unlike an atomic bomb, can destroy a city the size of New York and take a few million souls along with it.
The Russian nuclear bomb known as the Tsar Bomba is the mist powerful nuclear bomb known. It’s been stated that a nuclear bomb 100 times more powerful than the Tsar Bomba could be built, but if it was exploded all of mankind would be destroyed.

Yes, that's what I was wondering about.

What does this mean?
What do you think keeps him from doing that?
I think if he uses any nukes on Ukraine, the USA and NATO will declare WWIII.

Wow! And I bet someone will build one too in the future.

It is the addition of a previous archived thread to a recently posted thread on another subforum.

IMHO I dare say NATOS big 3 "US, UK and France" would even officially declare a conventional much less a nuclear 3'rd world war with any nuclear capable nation state over a non NATO country using any WMD. France and the UK would only respond in kind to a nuclear first strike from another officially recognized nuclear weapon equipped nation state or a rouge terrorist organization. If anything I think Russia and the US will probably burn the midnight oil on the proverbial hotline. I hope.

I simply do not have enough facts do know why Putin does not over run the Ukraine with the vast military at his disposal.
Putin wants the Ukraine back with its population and infrastructure intact. That is what he is after is that small nation and its people as part of Russia. Using a massive strike would kill many civilians and much of the infrastructure. And using a nuke would to that plus put 'fallout' on Russian civilians.
