Nuclear weapons in modern arsenals and their catastrophic effects

As citizen of the U.S.A. I believe that if we did not have them we would probably not be in existence. On the other hand as a citizen of the world I think it is would be insane to use them as it would probably destroy humanity.

If any government "leader" was stupid enough to launch a nuclear weapon, the "retaliation" would be swift and devastating...for Everyone. The U.S. got away with using nukes to end WWII, but back then, no one else had any. Today, half the world's population could be eliminated within a couple of hours, and the rest would face a return to the Dark Ages, before the radioactive fallout killed them, too.

The bombs are there. It's inevitable they will be used, assuming something else doesn't wipe us out first. Some will survive longer than others, some will survive better than others, but everyone, with not one exception, will be much worse off than they are now, and I think most underestimate how much worse off that is.
