As seems to be the trend these days, they attack the inanimate object rather than the person who abuses it. Somehow, people should not have to be accountable for their actions.
Plastic can be used responsibly. We've recycled and used cloth grocery bags for decades, not to "save the planet" but simply because it's the responsible thing to do. We still end up with plenty of single use plastic bags which are virtually always repurposed but eventually end up in the trash.
When I look at the amount of plastic I take to the transfer center I have to laugh at these bans. Plastic milk cartons, yogurt containers, other food containers, bubble wrap, product containers ... the list is very long. Should we ban them all? By weight, plastic bags are a tiny percentage of the total.
Our plastic bags, along with other non-recyclable wastes, ultimately end up in with rest of the garbage to be sent to an industrial waste incinerator. These days incinerators have become quite efficient and any air pollution created is very small.
Biodegradable single use plastic bags have been around for decades yet nobody is clamoring for them.
The problem isn't plastic nor even single use plastic bags. It's irresponsible people. JMHO
