This thing of “Defund the Police” started during the peaceful protests. Once the ‘mob’ (ANTIFA) saw that this was catching on, they ran with it. Then, it turned political. It started with the Minneapolis mob, then New York and Seattle was right on their heels. Minneapolis is going to somehow dismantle their police department and replace it with some type of community leadership patrols.
New York has already voted to cut $1billion from their budget and divert that money to education (not sure what that means), expand the broadband in the projects, give money to youth development programs (sports) and some of the money will also go to mental health aid.
AOC, representative from the Bronx thought that the $1 billion wasn’t enough. I really don’t have any connections with anyone in the NYC police force, but I have spoken with a few of the men with the New York State Police. Right now, their morale is also low and they don’t have a lot of good to say about Cuomo. They also agree with most everyone else that de Blasio needs to go.
The one NY Trooper that I know personally, told me that he spoke with some of the detectives in the city and they plan on retiring as soon as they become eligible, which right now is 20 years. Under the present working conditions. I really can’t blame them. I know that I am biased, but police, like doctors, nurses, even teachers, need support from their superiors. A lack of support lowers not only morale, but also self-esteem. You start thinking to yourself, “Why am I risking my life doing a job when nobody cares and actually wants us to just go away?”
How would you feel if you thought no one cared?
