O.J. Simpson to be Parolled in October of This Year; Your Thoughts?

From everything I've heard he was over sentenced so for that reason I have no problem with parole and am surprised lawyers couldn't get the original sentence tossed for unequal application of the sentencing laws.

I was amazed that his parole hearing warranted enough attention to be broadcast live on the networks and have the pundits analyze every word.

Agree, it's getting way too much attention for many of us that haven't the least bit interest, but, unfortunately, the news sources know, because each time they air a new TV series the ratings are off the chart, they too can likely count on higher viewer ship from those who may not tune in otherwise. Sigh. Seems I will just have to change the channel every so often during my regular viewing times.

OJ will always be in the public's eye because of the original murder trial and all the hoopla from that.

I agree, you can't keep him behind bars indefinitely also. It is annoying, but typical, how the main stream media was reporting on this all day long, or at least every time the TV had my ear. Glad he was paroled and hope he does well and stays on the straight and narrow.

It may seem that some "over-sentencing" takes place, but is used as an incentive or bargaining chip to encourage good behavior, while in custody.

Though never convicted, I saw where 83% of whites and 57% of blacks now believe he got away with murder, myself included.

Hopefully he'll screw up again and get another 9 years.....get out, screw up and get another nine.....get out, screw up and get another nine.....etc.

He belongs behind bars for life for murder.

You can actually make your hands bigger, which OJ did + wearing surgical gloves when they ordered him to put on the gloves.

That whole courtroom trial looked like an old Keystone Kops movie. And then the stupid jury ate it all up.

But clever Johnnie Cochrane saved his butt.

I thought he was guilty as hell for murdering Nicole and Ronald. I say keep him behind bars for those murders whether or not he was actually acquitted.

We lived on Bundy drive, two blocks from where it all took place. We were very much interested in the entire thing.

They said that Nicole's head was almost decapitated ! Who else could have done it ? An intruder seeking valuables? Ha Ha (NOT)

Agree IKE, he will screw up and go back. Its his nature. I always thought he got away with murder. I know the Goldmans can't touch his NFL pension but I hope they take every dime he makes after that. You could tell today he is still full of himself. He is simply a thug.

There's a great Seinfeld spoof:

He stopped taking his arthritis meds which caused his knuckles and fingers to swell.
At the time,I thought their verdict was payback for Rodney King.
I guess the media needed to play back the "highlights" of the 94-95 fiasco in light of yesterday's proceedings, the prosecution did look like a bunch of bumbling idiots, from Mark Furhman to the sloppy handling of the blood to the judge's apparent love affair with the TV cameras,it was a debacle!!!
What I find the most distasteful is the spectators, onlookers, whatever, calling him a hero, seriously,he's a washed up football player lousy actor and murderer!
Want to see a hero,go to the nearest VA hospital, police station or firehouse....

I saw a report on the evening news that the prison has put him in "protective custody" until he is released....probably to protect him from his fellow prisoners. Personally, I think he should be put in the general population, and all the prison guards should go on an extended coffee break...maybe then, this psycho would finally get the justice he deserves.

It sounds like no one believes he was innocent ever. He did well in the regular population.

My sentiments exactly! He may not have been in prison for the right reason, but he was in there. That's all I cared about.

What a joke with him saying that with the exception of the robbery his life had pretty much been crime free!!! If you don't count the years of verbal & extreme physical abuse, the severing, butchering and overkill of 2 people, and I remember at least one instance of drunken road rage & jerking/knocking a man's glasses off.....yeah, crime free!

I think the decision was legally the "correct" one, but I watched some of the beginning of the hearing. He seemed to be wound tight as a spring, maybe just nerves because of the hearing. There was one point where he clearly lost his temper, around the 17:00 minute mark. You'd think he'd be on his best behavior. Temper was obviously his problem before. I quit watching shortly after that.

Whatever a person thinks abut OJ and the murder of his wife, he was in jail for another offense. We don't get to second guess a jury and decide somebody needs to stay in jail because of our personal opinions on whether or not he committed murder in a case in which he was acquitted. That's not the way the system is supposed to work.

O.J. was originally sentenced to 33 years with parole eligibility in 9 years, which is this year. This means that he has made parole in his first attempt, which is rare in a lot of cases where a weapon was used. So, some will say that he caught a break.

I have attended hundreds of trials in my 37 years as a State Policeman. There have been times where I became disillusioned with the justice system. But, in the end, I had to accept what the lawyers, judges and juries decisions were, or it would drive me to insanity.

I saw instances where I thought those that were guilty walk out the door and other times I thought some were innocent and were found guilty. I also saw sentences that I felt did not match the crime. For one, I never felt that murders that were orchestrated by an individual and that individual would receive more time than the actual killer made sense. Where that nonsense came from, I have no idea.

In one case, a jury convicted a murderer with second degree murder and was later sentenced to 25 years to life. A few weeks later, I saw the same exact outcome by a jury and the murderer was sentenced the same, 25 years to life, with the judge suspending 180 months or 15 years of the sentence because he felt the jury may have misinterpreted the evidence. The DA immediately filed an appeal on the ruling because there is no allowance in Pennsylvania for a judge to be able to do this and for the judge to set a precedence in a murder case in a state court is almost unheard of. The case is pending before a federal appeals court after the PA Superior Court and Supreme Court both upheld the judge's decision, but I am not sure which federal circuit court is hearing the case.My guess would be the third circuit.

I've seen many rulings which I think are unfair, too. For one thing, here in NM sentencing for the killing of a child (i.e., child abuse) is regularly for many fewer years than for the killing of an adult. If anything, I think the reverse should be true.
