I'm trying to work out what words you meant... is it N...igg-er.. and Ne--gro ?
I give you a lot of credit Holly for even just spelling the words. Even though some black people use those words when speaking with one another, a white man talking that talk can get them in a world of hurt here in the U.S.
Anytime people say they have never said the word, or used the word, or heard the word, I seriously doubt their integrity. It’s a word that has for the most part been outlawed, except not legally so.
Ohioboy knows more about this than I do, but I can tell you that on several occasions, the federal courts have not been consistent with their rulings as to whether calling a black person the “N” word is part of the hate crime laws or not. Most rulings that I have read have supported the way in which it was used or said. If you see a black person across the street and you yell to him, “Hey n———-.” That’s nothing and it falls under the first amendment. However, if you see a black person across the street and you yell to him, “Hey n———r, get out of my neighborhood or I will shoot you.” That is a hate crime because you have introduced a physical threat of body harm.
The best I can say is, just don’t use the word for more reasons that just that. If I had my way, there are certain words that if used in public would carry a misdemeanor and fine. Why people feel they have to use the “N” word, the “F” word and other foul words is beyond me. I look at it as being on a diet and having to give up sugar. They can’t seem to do because they have been doing it for so long, it has become normal to them.
I’m no goody-two shoes, but if I’m having a conversation with someone and they begin to use the “F” word, I tell them straight out. “If you’re going to talk like that using that language, this conversation is over.” I don’t use the word and I don’t expect anyone who speaks to me to use the word. And that’s all I have to say on the topic.
