While the mainstream media has promoted the idea of racist police unjustly targeting black people, official crime statistics revealed that's nothing more than a myth. One America's Pearson Sharp breaks down the numbers.
 

I haven't watched them yet, but since the black population in the US is about 12% and the white population is about 60% (including white Hispanics) if we were looking for pattern of similar behavior towards whites there would be five times as many whites as black shot by police rather than just twice as many. So a very simple and likely inaccurate assessment would be that blacks are shot and killed by police at 2.5 times more per capita than whites.
 
Yup, cops kill more whites than blacks. And Texas cops lead the pack. Like that's a surprise. Generally,cops kill about twice as many whites as blacks. Strangely, there are about 6 times as many whites in the US as blacks. Latinos & Hispanics have twice the population of blacks, yet cops kill half as many of them as blacks. In other words, you are more likely to be killed by a cop, if you're black. This all sound very sinister, but the fact is that , on the whole, whites are in their late 50s, and all the other races are in their 20s. For whites, their criminal days are behind them. BUT, how do you justify the lop sided rate of cop kill between blacks & Hispanics?
Whatever the cause, cops are killing people , in the US, at the rate of 4-6 per day. We don't really know how many cop kills there are. There is no federal law, which mandates an accounting to a federal agency. All reporting is done on a purely voluntary basis. Since there is no real accounting, it is impossible to know how many deaths were unavoidable, and how many were results of police abuse. You do have to wonder why Texas kills way more of their suspects, than states with similar sized populations.

Today's Washington Post has a great column by Margaret Sullivan about this ridiculous propaganda outlet. She says it actually makes Fox News look good by contrast! Here's an excerpt:

"Say what you will about how low Fox News's reporting and commentary can sink - and I have - but it seldom stoops this low. The network does make an effort, most of the time, to adhere to some sort of standards, citing where reporting came from and even trying to draw a line between reporting and opinion.....

Even within the ranks of this reliable Trump cheerleading squad, the latest incident has caused embarrassment. "I'm seeing how much response this is all getting on Twitter right now, and it's freaking awful," one OANN staffer said... I'm worried that the next news director I send my reel out to will only see "OAN" on my resume and throw it in the trash."

Sullivan adds: "I'd call that a perfectly legitimate worry."

What is the "latest incident" she is referring to? Well, it seems this so-called news network, which shamelessly deals in lies and very little else, is trying to spread the rumor that Martin Gugino, the 75-old-man who was thrown to the ground in Buffalo, had a scanner and was trying to "scan" and "blackout" the police equipment. No evidence, of course, it's total nonsense. But there are those who will buy into any nonsensical conspiracy theory if it comes from their side of the aisle.
 
I'm of the opposite opinion regarding the Washington Post. It's pure Jeff Bezos.

Ah, New York Times as well. Thanks. Peeked at it, but ... well, I can't say more here at seniorforums.com. But suit yourself. People are free to read what they want.

Note that I'm not arguing the point in the title of this thread.

You have to factor in somewhere the fact that black people (12 percent of the population) commit 50 percent of the violent crimes. That leads to more encounters with the police and more deaths as a percentage of the total population.

Still, death at the hands of the police is relatively rare (of course that doesn't justify any level of abuse or brutality). What's not rare is black people killing black people, but that is blamed on the ready availability of guns and not on the people who use them.

Earlier this week the Washington Post ran an op-ed suggesting that cop and detective shows be banned because they glamorize the police. The New York Times fired its op-ed editor for running a piece by a U.S. Senator reflecting the opinions of a majority of people in this country.

I don't watch OANN but it can't be much dumber than those two publications.

Then you also have to factor in that black people are more likely to be arrested, charged and convicted of violent crimes than white people who commit the same crimes. I'd have to search to find the studies which show this is the case, but I'm pretty sure I could find them.
 
Asp 3, that is a completely valid point. Same is true, I believe, for drug offenses.
