Off Duty Police Officer Shot and Killed This Evening

There was an overwhelming show of support for Officer Bartek's Family tonight at Beerheads Restaurant in Cleveland from 3-11 pm. There was so much online ordering and donating to his family. The Officer had been to the restaurant before. People really came through for his family and funeral expenses. The funeral will be on Tuesday next week at Grace Church in Middleburg Hts.

This is truly tragic, but I do have one question...

Since the officer was off duty, was he dressed in civilian clothes or was he dressed in his uniform? I'm sure he wasn't in his police cruiser or they would have never tried to carjack him.

This changes the narrative. Was he truly a police officer who was in harm's way because of his job or did these two thugs just want to carjack a civilian. In that case, it could have been anyone and really had nothing to do with his being a police officer.

Granted, this makes it no less tragic, and I feel for his family, but again it does change the narrative and the whole direction of this thread. I don't see any details in any of the posts. I may have missed them.

After watching some of these videos I see that a preliminary trial will take place on Jan. 11 at 8:30 am. I will keep us updated.

It has been ruled he died in the line of duty since he was trying to take the suspect down and was a police officer. I don't know if he identified himself as a police officer to the assailants and I don't know how he was dressed either. All I know is of the ruling that came out of it.

Thanks for the clarification. Again, truly tragic. :(

I don't know if you saw what I edited into my post but it was that I don't know how he was dressed when he was killed. Maybe all of that will come out in the trial. Yes, it is a terrible thing, such a nice young man trying to serve and protect. This case really upsets me.

There was a wake today and tonight for Officer Shane Bartek. I saw a video, tons of American and police flags with so many crowding into Grace Church to pay their last respects. I believe the entire state of Ohio and many all over the country have been affected by this senseless killing. They even mentioned him in my community's newsletter the other day. It's a very sad thing for a 25 year old police officer to be cut down in his prime. Apparently everyone loved him.

She has been charged with Aggravated Murder. His death was ruled as In the Line of Duty--see above video as it explains it. The entire episode of his death(murder) was captured on video there at the scene.

Sometimes my brain is on vacation. :)

I will read something, go to post, and it's just like I never read it, and post opposite facts. I always welcome corrections.
