Officials: Utah's mysterious 'monolith' has disappeared

Nearly two weeks after it was first discovered in the rural Utah desert, the mysterious object dubbed the "monolith" has disappeared, according to officials.

The Bureau of Land Management confirmed Sunday that the metallic tricornered beam found protruding from the earth in southern Utah was gone.

I thought - whatever it was, wherever it came from, whoever was responsible - it was wonderful to have something to ponder that had nothing to do with politics or viruses.

"Utah Bureau of Land Management said on Saturday "We have received credible reports that the illegally installed structure, referred to as the 'monolith,' has been removed. The BLM did not remove the structure, which is considered private property"."

First of all, since when has the BLM respected private property? I don't think I've ever read anything where they refer to any property as "private".
Secondly, how did I not know about this monolith thing? This is the first I've heard of it. How interesting. I looked up images; man, are those for real? It's all shiny in the photos except for the ones that show just the pointy top sticking up out of the ground. In those it just looks like a rock with an unusual shape. Pointy.

edit: Dug deeper; it's flat on top. Also has tack points along the edges, so obviously built by someone. Pretty cool, though. I'm guessing the people who put it there went and got it before they could be found out and fined or charged with some violation.

Mystery monolith identical to one which disappeared in US desert reappears in Europe

A metal monolith identical to one which reportedly disappeared from a desert in Utah, US, after appearing there in mid-November has mysteriously been spotted on a Romanian hillside.

That one looks a bit different to me. Maybe it's the angle but I see scrolling etched on it. The one in Utah had no sign of digging at the base; this one does.
A new twist on field patterns, I presume. It'll be kinda fun to see what *they* impale next.

It describes them as identical but the one in Romania seems to have more texture. It also seems like it may be taller. Don't think someone boarded a plan with the monolith and headed for the Romanian hills. Maybe a copycat (?) Maybe an alien (?) 👽 LOL

Based on the "Leave no trace" comments by the people who took it down I think it was probably a group of people related to Burning Man which has that as one of it's 10 principles. Also it's the sort of thing that would potentially happen at Burning Man. Sometimes things appear and then disappear at Burning Man without a lot of people witnessing the installation and removal.

Some people took it down because of the idiot curiosity seekers were coming in every type of vehicle. There was no parking anywhere, so just left their vehicle wherever. Also it is in a very inhospitable place and people could get lost trying to find it.
