Oh, God! Why are you reading this?

I went to the 1964 Worlds' Fair in NYC a number of times. Two things amazed me. I remember looking around at the apartment buildings across the road from the park, thinking, WOW, they live in NYC!!! About 8 years later, I was living in one of those very buildings.
The other was the buried time capsules from the 1939 and '64 W.F. There are to be opened 5,000 years from now. But I thought they were supposed to open some for 2039-2064? The reason I thought of time capsules is that I got out my tax returns from the 1980s. It's against my religious beliefs to throw away a tax document or a bill.. Good grief, I can't believe I lived on what I made in 1980. Plus, this was from an ancient era when we had to mail in our tax returns. My paper time capsule isn't complete. When I moved, I didn't have the space to store my 'records'. I had to throw out my 1972 NYC phone bills, etc. It was a tragic loss.

I waver back and forth over fostering cats. I've had pet cats most of my life. And they aren't cute ornaments-they are a responsibility. I'm not sure I want to do that, again.
yeah if memory serves you’ve spoken of the fostering thing before.
you’re def correct a pet IS a responsibility. with all of the cats you’ve had you’ve fersure got a good handle on the pros & cons.
just thought i’d throw out those couple of tidbits in case you had begun to waver towards the DO IT mentality😉

I promised myself that TODAY, I would do my taxes. I have no idea why I always put off doing them. They really aren't that bad to do.
But of course, if there's a good game on TV, a really great documentary/TV show, or I just desperately need something from the store-there is Monday.
Yesterday, I remembered the '64 World's Fair in NYC. When I was a tot, 4 or5, I lived in a tiny Massachusetts town. The only building in town that was 4 floors was the hospital. For some reason, my family drove to NYC in the early 1950s. I remember seeing all the huge apartment buildings. I couldn't believe how many sick NYC people were in those hospitals.
Later.....
BTW- still haven't done my taxes.
But the two guys, who remodeled the house across the street into a bnb, haven't had anybody in six months.

Ta da. My taxes are done, Yeah!!! I was going to do them myself, like I used to do, but the "helpful" IRS booklet left me swimming upstream in terminology. I found an online preparer for $14. I have a simple tax return. Yet, there were questions like did I receive overseas payments for selling Opec oil?
I've been mulling over boarding some kitties. Bad idea. I'm going to try growing a plant. I don't have a great track record. My ex gave me a cactus and said nobody kills a cactus-yeah, RIGHT!

I am *so* not talking to you today... taxes done... humbug! I procrastinated as long as I could but finally printed out the forms this morning. I've always done them myself and will again this year... not sure if it's getting more stressful each year or if it's just me getti.... uh, no, I'm not getting older, so couldn't be that. :ROFLMAO:

Anyhow, note that I said I printed off the forms... won't actually start the work for a day or two yet. Yeah, yeah, I know. But I need to be emotionally ready. 🤷‍♀️

Usually, I'm at my computer, @ 11:00 PM, working on a tax preparer site, so I can finish and email the return before,12 AM, April 15.
Besides name & address, etc., I have to enter only 4 numbers on the 1040, yet, it's still so confusing.

In just a few days, two happy, fat checks will dance into my bank account. This month, they are not already spoken for- no insurance, no heating bills, etc. Plus, I get my tax refund, too. I can actually put some to my savings. This can only mean one thing- Now, what the hell costly thing is going to happen to me, and how much is it going to cost me?

It's just above freezing outside. And there's snowflakes falling. I get "lake affect snow", even though the Great Lakes are 300 miles away. Winter just won't go away. I want to get going on some yard work. Since I can't walk far, I use my lawn tractor to get around my lot, but it's too cold to be doing that, today. I'm not totally sad about that. That activity wrecks my back. It will cost a fortune to get someone to do that for me. Maybe, we were a little too hasty about abolishing slavery?

Maybe Harold and his mates could help. 🤔

I ain't doin' a damn thing today. That is one of the ultimate freedoms in being retired- not doing a damn thing. I'm just not in the mood. I was going to go to get a couple of clamps, I have to re-glue a Formica strip in the kitchen. It always amazes me when I say what else can possibly go wrong- and magically there it is.
Yeasterday, I was thinking I've replaced every appliance in my home, except the dryer and my toaster. Today, the toaster is acting up, it cremated my toast. Like I said when you say what else can possibly go wrong- TA DA magically there it is!!!!!!

There goes those two fat checks! 😉🤭😂

Barny, the bear woke up from winter hibernation.. Last night was put-out-the-trash night. Barny got into my trash. I threw away a couple of slices of burnt toast, and Barny sniffed them out. Barny is like a surgeon, he makes a small hole, and dives right for the goodies. Most bears just destroy trash bags, leaving trash all over the yard. Barny's a good bear.

I have all this stuff to do outside that needs doing. The last two days, it's been just above freezing cold, wet, and cloudy, but I was hankering to get a start on doing some work. Today, it's supposed to be warm and sunny, but all I want to do is sit on the couch and watch cartoons. I don't know why but life seems to be remembering a $10 off coupon the day after it expires.

I like watching college baseball. It's essentially watching 18-22 yr olds with a lot more emotion and agility than the "aging pros". One thing all male baseball players do is "rearrange things" in their pants. No one can walk up to bat without doing some tucking. Yeah, ball players use twitches, etc. as signals, but these rearranging actions seem to be a universal signal of something else. That's when it dawned on me that I could make billions if I came up with a baseball jock strap that actually fit. I have to think about this. Nails, screws, and rivets probably have been tried.

Right now I engaged on some extensive tests of my toaster. It either burns the toast or won't toast it. I've had this toaster for about 20-25 years. So far, the data from the lab indicates that my old toaster may be on its last slice of bread. I'm still waiting for irrefutable proof my toaster is going to bite the dust. After all, Consumer Reports says the best new toaster will cost $34. $34 is a good hunk of change for a toaster. I'm amazed how rational and penny-wise I am about getting a new toaster, when I just bought $38 in fridge magnets.

Just buy a damn toaster! 😉🤭🤗

I got me a plant. I bought a Gerbera Daisy. It made all my plant qualifications-it's green. I don't have the greatest luck with plants. The tag that comes with the plant said "Sun to part shade". When I look out my window, -yup, there's sun light. Also, my plant's grower is certified owned by "Women". I'll have to teach it to properly swear.
Right now, my plant is making out its will.

It dawned on me that I wasn't prepared for getting a plant. I don't even have a watering can. And I'm not sure I should repot the plant? Good greif!!! You think a plant that lives all by itself outside needs so much stuff inside.
It happens every 6 months. I have a DR.'s appt and I'm supposed to get labs before I see him. I'm assured the lab order is on my chart. I'm supposed to see my Doc. next week, and AS USUAL, there's no order for my labs. 😡 AHHHHHH!

Yesterday was one of those aggravating days. My TV remote was on its last legs, so I ordered a new one from my cable co. I kept looking for it all day. There was 1 fifteen minute rain shower yesterday, so guess when the UPS guy left it on the deck.
I filled out my "pre -visit" questionnaire for my Doc. It had a million and 1 questions-
Am I suicidal?
Am I able to dress myself?
Do I have safety bars in my BR?
Do I have visual problems where I can't read? (How in the hell am I able to fill this thing out???)\
On and on for 45 minutes.
I vacuumed my little office, and as I'm putting the vac away, I wacked the pencil sharpener, which then dumped filings all over.

BTW, my little plant seems to be doing good. In just a couple of days , all its leaves turned to face the window.

I have a Dr.'s appointment coming up next week, and this morning I had my labs for my diabetes. For weeks, I've been good about my diet, so my Doc won't yell at me. But now, I can munch out without him knowing about it.
You have no idea how good two McDonalds cheeseburgers and a large fry taste.
BTW, that meal cost me $12.72

I do the same thing, pizza on the way home from the blood lab! 😉🤭😂

A bear got my neighbor's trash, it's all over the yard. Our bear, Barny, usually just slits the trash bag right over the food and gets the food. He doesn't normally shred it, and fling stuff all over the yard. Maybe another bear?
Barney did have a twin brother/sister.
BTW, it seems like my toaster is working again.
I have a GEICO app on my phone. This week, when I had my car inspected, I was able to pull up proof I had insurance. Today, when I tried to get into the site, my password wouldn't work. Two days ago, the same password worked- and today, it doesn't???????? :unsure:

It's raining outside, windy and cold. So, I used this 'down' time to improve my mind- I watched cartoons. One cartoon tried to predict the future in the far-off year of 2000. To people in 1952, 2000 was in the future; and to us, it's the past. According to the cartoon, the future of 2000 was all scientifically organized and efficient. But in 2025, we more or less stumbled through 2000.
