Oh! The noise! The noise!

I've lived in the City all of my life and there has always been noise outside. Now however a newly married couple moved into the house next door to me. They are always yelling and screaming at one another. They have a dog that barks constantly. It all starts at 4am. Then after they go to work about 9am the dog barks until they come home around 6pm and then the yelling starts and goes on all night until at least 1am. And they play loud music constantly. I can hear them in every room in my house.

That must be awful. Some people have no consideration.

I know it's necessary, but when that red alert bar comes on the tv, with its screaming noise, and is almost full volume.

YES, YES, YES!!! I hate it so bad! And it'll be on every channel so there's no getting away from it. It's especially irritating just as you doze off.

Talking to my younger daughter last night. She’s a veterinarian but unfortunately has noise sensitivity as well. She said one tiny dog with a high-pitched bark made her cover her ears. She was asking for recommendations about dealing with this.

Anyone have a suggestion?

@RadishRose she already wears “noise-canceling” head phones when in the office part but I don’t think that would go over well with the customers in the exam room. (Might take it amiss that little Fluffy could be anything but perfect lol)

I know there are ear plugs designed to manage noise, like the “loop” earplugs, but I don’t know how they work, so that’s a reason I’m asking for input.

Restrict her practice to large animals, like horses, and cattle.

Earplugs or earmuffs?

Good idea, I think. I was going to suggest this for Ike (post #2) in relation to that town whistle. You could set a (pleasant sounding) time alarm on a clock, clock radio, smart phone, or whatever. Set it to sound a minute or two before he town whistle. Then put in your earplugs, or don your ear protectors ("earmuffs")... take 'em out or off when that noise is past.

You can get industrial type "earmuffs" in any outlet selling shop equipment (power tools). They also sell earplugs, some that you just insert in your ear canals, one type is attached to a loop that goes over your head. Another option might be ear buds playing music from your smart phone or other small music device. They cut out at least 50% of external sounds while providing music you enjoy,

I have nightmares about who might be moving in. Maybe we'll luck out and they'll be old farts like us and play music quietly. Maybe they won't have dogs that bark incessantly.

This is terrible. I could never live where you are. It's like living in hell! This is one of the reasons why I would never move to a "Pets Welcome" apartment/condo. Where I live there is no smoking and no pets and I love it. I don't need dogs barking by my door. I was born and raised in the country but I sure don't need a bloody barnyard by my door on the 8th floor. Careful where you walk! Don't step into the Poop!

She doesn't play music loudly but she does have four dogs. Except for the beagle who likes to " sing", I hear very little from them and Caruso Beagle holds his arias down to short performances.

The noise that bothers me is traffic on the roads. How dare they drive when I’m out walking. I don’t know why it bothers me so much considering I don’t have great hearing. This isn’t even traffic on a major road.

We can hear some traffic from the expressway that's about 4 blocks away but it's just "background noise", almost a "white noise".

Except for the Florida room, which has double-pane windows, only the two bathrooms have windows that face that direction, so you can't even hear it from the rest of the house, unless there are sirens.

My hearing is pretty bad and I only wear my aids if I'm going out or have company. And my tinnitus is pretty loud. So, most noises don't bother me. I even like wind chimes. I do wear ear muffs when using power tools.
