Oh, you're not working, why not

It's quite simple. Some people just want to spend their later years enjoying their hobbies and interests, or doing absolutely nothing. To each their own.
That's true, but on the other hand there are those who simply cannot mind their own business. Many years ago now, a relative by marriage gave my wife's sister a lecture about population numbers when Sister-in-Law announced that she was expecting twins. They would bring her child count up to five.
That same busybody, when learning that my wife and I had no children harangued my lady about selfish attitudes. Well that's not quite true, he didn't get too far into his rant before my lady turned on him. Believe me, he got both metaphoric barrels at close range. He got his lifestyle picked apart in no uncertain terms.

Additionally, for the last seven of my final nine years of my career, I endured the tyranny of a monstrous boss
The work was fine - in fact, I enjoyed it for the most part, but the new department manager made it miserable to show up every day.
Difficult bosses or coworkers turn enjoyable jobs into hellscapes. Fortunately, DH & I were self-employed so it was less challenging to tailor semi-retirement, retaining our pleasant customers (who pay on time or early), and waving goodbye to the aggravating ones.

We semi-retired in Spring 2016 with plans to stop working altogether in Fall 2022. The work has been enjoyably diverting rather than difficult, a hassle, or overly time consuming, so we have kept on. Limitations on our freedom have (quite surprisingly) been negligible to nonexistent.

All told, it's worked out far better than we'd expected or dared hope.

I am 77 now and the FAA won’t allow me to fly commercial jets after 65. I think I could still do the job, but would like to get into the simulators for at 2-4 weeks. I feel like 50 and my wife has no complaints, if you know what I mean. I am not interested in flying puddle jumpers, although I have, but never enjoyed it.

Give me a Boeing 757 or 767, which are soon to be replaced by the Boeing 797. I hope Boeing has more luck with their new product over the 737-MAX.

I don't work because i'm 76... worked enough. covid kinds did it for me. I was (and still have been) luck to never get it. when we were scheduled to return to school, there was no consideration for those of us in the group most likely to be negatively effected.

The FAA set 65 as the age pilots holding an ATP certificate must retire from flying. After I left at 63, only because I was offered an early out package, I went to work for a private company that offers private jet services for corporations, large agencies or individuals that can afford such luxury.

I flew a new Gulfstream 650. That was a really nice plane with most of the up to date technology onboard.

65 is air carrier 14cfr121. I just got corrected. My apologies.

People say stuff like that because nowadays everything is about them. "Look at me. I'm working. Why aren't you? I know it's rude to say things like this, but I'm really talking about me so it's OK."
Why am I - or my wife, not working?

Because I and my wife used our head and religiously saved our $$$ for our later years. For the most part, even our pay raises were not spent but put into our investment portfolio.

Too many people simply don't conceive of how long they are going to live or how long they will be able to keep a profitable job at an advanced age.

You have to presently do without and live within your means.

Let me state that we were lower middle class job holders. We weren't head honchos or upper tier execs. My wife is 85 and I'm 90. We are doing well because of our not living beyond our means while younger.

Not Working?? - what do you mean - I have to make huge working efforts to stay alive each day - some are really difficult to get through believe me?
