OK What Have You Done Lately?

That's what I want to ask when I talk with some one that goes on and on ad nauseum about their past accomplishments of which they are proud, in finance, romance, sports, etc. I had lunch with one of these types today and heard for the upteenth time about his football accomplishments of many years past. It's nice to have memories of things of which you are proud, but work on doing things today for which you will be as proud of in the future.

Bit difficult when it's hard to get out of bed.

I'm proud to have made it through another day, and to have outlived some of the miserable b******s I grew up with!

I want to die as an above average chess player and practice and play online. Not sure that I am going to make it...

Accomplishments of today, well, earlier this week I finished putting our outside Christmas lights up! As I was finishing up, I called my wife at work and told her that I'm definitely earning that 6-pak of Yingling Beer I want and the Prime Rib dinner I will get when we have a Christmas dinner with some friends next week at a steak restaurant.

We drove around our apt. complex last night, and out of 200 apartments, only ours and two others have some nice Christmas décor outside. It makes us feel really good (naw, GREAT) when people drive by our apt. SLOWLY and look at our décor.

Ditto that, once past a certain age or having disabilities, for many, their past is all they have to talk about, so sometimes it's just kind to indulge people or just ignore if its so burdensome. I especially enjoy hearing many stories from my elderly neighbors who have no one to talk with or from the vets that often retell their favorite stories of feats of heroics or their romantic past or whatever.

I myself still am having stories develop to this day that I could tell, but, I get more of a kick out of my past stories as well and am less likely to get certain people in the present in trouble by mentioning too much. LOL.

Just hearing ad nauseam said, having heard it and said it in the past, so much, at this point makes me nauseous.

I know what you mean Lon. Next time say 'interesting as these trips down memory lane are ....... what have you done just recently?'
;)

Recently, I'd have to say I am making a lasting impression on a toddler. I feel I am teaching her things she can't learn from her parents. That's the pity that there aren't more multi-generational households. Children used to get so much knowledge and patience from their grandparents and great-grandparents. Also, the fact that your grandmother thinks you are perfect is something you can carry with you for the rest of your life.
