Old age - what is it?

To me, old age is not being able to find a 'spot' in society with younger people ... when you become an observer, not a participant in life events

"Old age" is of course your physical body's declining state, and also a person's "frame of reference" in society becoming dated, not current.
I try to stay current and relevant, try to understand the younger generations rather than scorn them for not being like my generation. I don't socialize much with people my age, but sometimes it's refreshing to have shared values and experiences.

Old age is just a thought, a pondering.

For those who still have their health and mobility, old age is a time to do everything you can and want to, only at a slower pace, affording one the chance to truly take in all that this world offers.

My adage is, don't let age get in the way.

I think we think too much. Wait, that sounds weird. Early in the article (the first sentence), it says: No matter how we mark its beginning, “old age,” as the English sociologist John Vincent has said, “is always the period of life before death.”

By that definition, "old age" can occur at any point in life, irrespective of actual years we have lived. If a kid dies, then his or her "old age" might be at only 8 or 9 years.

So considering it from that viewpoint, the years probably matter less than our attitude.

Has anybody here watched the British comedy series "As Time Goes By"? Think of Rocky and Madge for inspiration on how to approach "old age". Unfortunately, I couldn't find a clip for the series on youtube, so you would have to see them with their catch phrase "rock on" every time Rocky's son told him that he shouldn't be doing the things he does because he is supposed to be old.

"Old Age" is of little concern to me. So long as I can still lead a fairly normal life, and look forward to tomorrow, and maintain a good relationship with the wife and kids, "years" are a minor issue. I just hope that when my time comes, it comes quickly.

As someone once said about porn, I can't describe it but I know it when I see it. And that happens whenever I look into a mirror. I'm 87 and proud of it.

What is "old age"? It's when, after 40 years, you meet your childhood friends; and they say " Damn, you got old."
However... the best part is when those who haven't seen you in years say to you, DAMN, you look great, you look so young!

That's where I want to be. :)
