Do you ever see somebody and think "Gosh he/she must
be very old", then discover that they are much younger than
yourself?

I have and only last month one man said that I wouldn't be
retiring like he is for a long time, during the discussion after
his statement, I was 14 years older than he is and I thought
that he was in his mid 80s!

Yes..I see it all the time TBH... but tbf I've always looked young for my age, so perhaps everyone who is the same age as me are just looking the age they ought to look... but I know what you mean, some people do seem to age much more than you would expect, either physically or mentally..

I looked at a photograph of my grandparents when they were in their 60s and they look in their 70s +. In their wedding photos my great grandparents who were in their 20s looked in their 30s +. Lewkat makes the point. I do think past generations looked older but there are so many contributing factors eg type of work, number of children, era in which one was born etc etc.
 
Well, since my wife, who is 72, colors her hair, and I, at 71, uses Just For Men Beard/Mustache Color, sure can't tell our age by our hair color. I use it on my temples and mustache.

And, we have both met people our same age, but act much older.

I run into it all the time, Mike.

In fact I remember running into people I graded with, back when we all were still in our 40's, and even then a few looked as though they were already in their 60's.

Feel so blessed that good genetics are on my side.
 
Have you guys ever noticed the elderly lead with their ages rather than their names? I've noticed this so many times.
"Hi! How are ya? My name is Joe Blow. What's yours?"
""I'm 72!"
or "I'm 83!"
or "I'm 67!"
They don't even care about introducing themselves. They just want everyone to know their AGE!

We know a gentleman who goes around telling everyone his age, and I will say, he looks great, but he doesn't have us fooled as to his hair colour. ROFLMAO!
 
and, What do you say to the cashier at a check out? "Hi!" and "Thank you." right?
I've seen ladies go to the check out and tell the cashier, "I'm 68!"
They wait for the cashier to say, "Wow, You look good for your age!"
"What?" "Why?"
i just shake my head.

LOL...better to go up to the cashier and tell her your 80 when you're really 60.. then you'll get some surprised looks...:LOL:

I've actually never experienced this. Maybe it's a south western thing.

I certainly have experienced this... and it's especially funny how the old often revert to being young when they would add another year onto their age..I'm 6 and three quarters .. certain oldies say..I'm Sarah , and i'm almost 90 years old.. they may be 2 years off.. but they want you to be impressed..lol
 
I know with guys, if you are balding, are overweight and wear glasses you look much older than you actually are. With women, they have been fooling us all our lives with makeup etc. so it's hard to tell.

Not a Los Angeles thing. I've never experienced it either, and I spent a fair amount of time visiting elderly relatives and meeting their buddies in Assisted Living facilities. My mother and my in-laws certainly never led with their age. They didn't lie if asked, but it wasn't something they volunteered. Nor do I.
