Older, past thread topics... do you keep them on WATCH, or do you UNWATCH them?

I do believe I have 99% of all thread conversations on WATCH still.

I ask, because it would be all too easy to miss a newly posted reply or entry to an older thread topic if you UNWATCHED it, so I don't want to take any chances and keep everything on WATCH.

I'm not up to speed on how to unwatch a thread (although I may have seen a how to at some time or another) so I guess all that I've replied to are on watch..but that would be a whole lot of threads then. Just really thinking out loud now:ROFLMAO:

Ruthanne. If you scroll up to start of this topic, sitting above my OP and to the top right, you'll see three small boxes.

One says "Jump to new", and beside it, "Unwatch".

And @Ruthanne
On any thread, in the upper right corner, there's a box that says "UNWATCH" which you could click on. It isn't too terribly difficult. o_O:sneaky::ROFLMAO:

Of course, a pop up box, then asks you if you really, really want to unwatch, so you need to deliberate again, and click on that one too, if you are very, very sure.

If 'watching' means I get an email whenever something is posted, I don't watch anything. Never have. I drop in several times a day, read up on new posts, add a comment occasionally and then move on. I visit several forum type sites daily and treat all the same. I usually visit all several times a day but my world wouldn't end if any or all left tomorrow. There is plenty of other interesting stuff to do.

What am I missing by not watching?

I keep an eye on posts I have had an interest in. If I started the thread, or have posted something, I am curious if people have responded or reacted to what I had to say. If it is a topic of interest to me, I follow to see what people are saying.
At least every other time I visit the site I click on New threads or Whats new. I do not rely solely on the posts in the right hand column, as they are just the most current.
I think people are missing out on interesting topics if they just go by the current posts in the right column

I believe email notification is a different option that members can select, whereas simply keeping thread topics on WATCH or UNWATCH, is accomplished on the same page said thread topic is posted. No going into Account Details, or Privacy, or Preferences to set/change.

If I have it correct, the Alert Bell at the very top of the page (beside the little envelope) won't light with a new alert on thread topics you've replied to, UNLESS you have the topic on WATCH, meaning if a member were to UNWATCH a topic they had previously been replying to and receiving Alerts to, they would miss any and all new posts to that topic.

I agree, Marie.

I, too, click on New Threads and What's New (top left of forum page) to see all that has been posted since my last visit.

You can go to your own profile, and click on Preferences,
and choose, if you want or that you do not want : alerts ON the forum page,
and/or e-mail notices,
for each type of item listed.

Alerts are not e-mails.

Sorry for my ignorance but what is "watch"? Where is "Watch?" I thought the posts were on for a little while and then lost forever!
Don't take my word as gospel, but I'm fairly certain that unless a member manually selects UNWATCH, I believe any/all threads and posts a member does automatically fall under WATCH.
