During my recovery I became acutely aware of nutrition and eating the right foods. Carbs, calories, vegetables, fruit,,,etc. I happened upon another important nutrition I had been neglecting that causes major issues with heart, lung, kidneys and generally everything else. I haven't been a great fish eater, I had an occasional tuna sandwich but would shun most other dishes supplying Omega-3 and reaping the benefits. I read that supplements and foods fortified with Omega-3 were basically worthless because you need to get it from natural sources.
One really great source is flaxseed, I have 2 Tbsp(s) everyday in oatmeal. I have just begun to add it twice a week in scrambled eggs. I also take 1 Tbsp at night with my 1/2 Cup of cottage cheese. I use the ground flaxseed that you can buy in bulk at most grocery outlets. I still don't eat fish but hopefully I'm adding enough Omega-3 to avoid that journey.
According to WebMD you should have a 1-1 ratio of Omega-3 to Omega-6 oils. Most adults have somewhere near a 1/15 ratio of O-3/O-6. Beans and walnuts are other good sources but no where near as good as flaxseed.

I shudder to think what mine was before my crises and obsessive charting. I have developed my diet based upon what works for me and have reduced the above ratio to 1/1.40 : O-3/O-6.
