OMG, His remote is not working!!!!

Ok remote junkies, what do you do when your remote gets all wonky
and you can't get to your favorite channel?
How do you react? Be truthful please
I thought I was going to have to sedate DH just 1 1/2 hrs ago for this.

Truth is --- if I could just manually change things on the TV - I wouldn't care so much ... but unfortunately the new TVs seem to have left off any buttons!!!! So - it can be quite frustrating. I fiddle with the darn thing --- new batteries first, then flip the batteries around a few times. Turn everything off then back on ... worse case, you have to buy a new remote.

I don't throw things at the wall ... not like it's gonna get fixed that way

He had no idea there was even an on/off button on the bottom of the tv

Yeah, good luck finding the buttons .... I swear, they forgot to put any on my tv !

Unplug the TV from the electric, count to
twenty slowly, then plug it back in.

I would always try unplugging everything for a minute, plug back in, power up, and try again. Often this fixes "glitches".

This post was more along the lines of what I had thought that the o.p. meant.

How to cope with the marriage, or was this finally the breaking point?

Or how to cope with her husband expecting HER to change the volume and channels on the set For him,.... incessantly.

With the new LG TV, we only have the one it came with. With our old TV, we had 6, every time the numbers would wear off we'd order a new set (one for me and one for the wife) lol. I'll be ordering a spare for the new TV soon as I'm worried if something should happen with the only one we have now . Don...

If it's a newer TV then you can probably download an app on your cell phone for the TV which you can use for the time being. It's not a permanent solution but hopefully would be a quick fix for now. I have the Vizio app on my phone for that very reason !

I would use an app, as my Dish remote is getting quite elderly. A Remote For Dish Network app is available, but only works if your phone has Infrared sensor (IR blaster).

If the batteries are okay, my next step is to consult You Tube. They've helped me fix many a thing. Also, I don't have Direct TV anymore, but when I had them, I would call their on-call technician for advice.

No limit (lol), Amazon will sell me as many as I want! OK, maybe I'll order 2. Depending on price, these are 'magic' remotes that will even take voice commands. What will they think of next? Don...

I have two ROKU TV's. When a remote stopped working I ordered a pack of two remotes for less than $10 from the big river site.
They work flawlessly but are just for ROKU TV's, not for the ROKU stick or box. My TV's are TCL branded ROKU TV's. And the remotes look just like the ones they replaced ...

... With my TCL ROKU smart TV's I could use ALEXA and voice commands as a remote. I haven't configured ALEXA for that though.
Well, I did once very briefly a good while back just to try it.
Found it was easier to push a button on the remote than to have a conversation with ALEXA, so disabled that feature.

I would react like your husband. I haven't had remote problems, but we have Apple TV and every now and then when I switch from dish to Apple TV the screen will blink on and off even though the sounds stays on. We both have cats on our laps when we watch TV so I'm always the one who has to get up and unplug/plug in the darn thing. The things that come out of my mouth in the interim would make a sailor blush!

You can use the vizio app as a remote?

Yes, for Vizio TVs and sound bars. I also use the Roku app for my Roku streaming stick when the batteries are low for the Roku remote.
